Lost a lot of weight, now need help.

Hi everyone. First of all, I'm glad to be here. I just registered because I need dire help with a question going through my mind right now. Sorry but I feel like I need to tell the whole story to get my question answered. Here we go:

I was a 114Kg (251lb) 16 year old boy when I felt like I needed a change, and so, I went for it. I was of the lazy kind, without much activity going on. This was two summers ago in 2006. I went to a gym and met the gym pro who gave me indication in diet and exercise routine to follow. I only followed the diet for about a week, and then I quit most of it, though I kept on drinking 4 liters of water each day as he told me. However, I kept going with the exercise routine. Anyway, over 1 month I had lost 14Kg (30lb). Around February, I stopped going to the gym almost daily to go just 1 or 2 days a week until summer.

After last summer in 2007, I started getting into it again, and met a different gym pro who managed to motivate me better than the other guy, so I started again, but this time without a diet and a different exercise routine. I managed to burn down another 14Kg (30lb) before winter break, where I took a break for a month and then kept on going. I lost nothing, but oh well. The thing is that before summer started, I lost in a period of 2 weeks or maybe a bit more, the ammount of 10Kg (22lb) because I had a lot of places to go to and I kept being really active. And so, we come down to the question:

I've been reading in some other forums before asking, and I've heard of a lot of people who lost weight just like me, that foud out what I think I might be facing soon; loose skin. To be honest it is not much of a big deal, but if I did so much to lose weight, I want to finish the work properly. Right now, I weight 76Kg (167.5lb) and my height is 1,79m (5,8ft) with 18 years. I had to change most of my clothes and I do think I look much thiner and athletic now. However, I don't know anything about skin, fat or anything like that, so I'm facing a dilemma. I still have some skin or fat (I really don't know exactly what it is) below my arms, belly, lower back and butt cheeks. I'm desperately looking for help because I don't know what to do. What do you think it is? If it is skin, I really don't want to keep on going just to make it worse, but if it is fat, I want to get rid of it.

Please help!
Thank you very much for reading.

There really isn't much you can do to prevent the excess of skin. It's likely to happen if you were once a lot larger than you are now.

One way to minimize the excess skin you get, though, may be to lose weight as slowly as you possibly can (at a rate of about 1 pound lost per week, I'd say). This gives your skin plenty of time to become taut again while in transition from covering a big body to covering a smaller one. If you lose weight too quickly, your skin has trouble keeping up with the changes and the elasticity in your skin fails to keep everything tucked away nicely and neatly.

Another way to minimize the result of excess skin is to moisturize religiously. Not only does this prevent stretch marks (which are also common results of drastic weight loss), but, it helps keep your skin healthy and "alive" in a sense.

I lost about a 100lbs about 1 year ago and I had and still have alittle bit of the same problem. THere was a point where I really thought about having surgery but then i said I would diet really strict for 1 last time and then I finally got some reasonable results. My problem area is pretty much all in my abs. Sometimes I get frusturated, I think that im not getting fast enough results but I take pictures periodically and I do see results. I think its more like skin with pockets of extra fat and once you get rid of the extra fat then reavaluate. It also seems to get better with time. I spent 10 years of life overweight so I guess it should take a couple to get everything back in shape!!!

Wait it out, your only 16 you will probably end up growing into most of it, let time do its work, only real way of getting rid of it totally is surgery and that costs alot of money.
