So I'm new here. I just want to say all you guys are so incredibly inspirational. When I found this site it was like sent from heaven. Just know your words of encouragement make a difference in people's lives, even for people just browsing the site.

Anyways, I was diagnosed with a life threatening heart condition three weeks ago which was only aggravated by my weight (I'm 19yrs female, 5'7" 242). My doctor told me I needed to lose weight fast in order to bring my risk level down. He put me on Optifast which is a very low calorie diet. I have lost 21 pounds in three weeks, making me 221.

My question...doesn't this seem really really fast? What can I do to make sure I don't lose muscle? Even at my highest weight I was always a pretty active tennis player. I don't want to come out of this thinner but without any of the muscle I worked so hard to keep over the years. Would you recommend doing cardio and weight training? Just weigh training? Or nothing because I'm only getting around 800 calories a day?

Any little tid bits would be appreciated, I just feel so lost.

Hope you all are having an amazing and successful weekend!!!

Yes, it is very fast. Normally, that's not a good way to lose weight, but your doctor must have decided it was worth the risk due to your heart condition.

I am not a doctor, but from what I've seen, cardio exercise is usually recommended for people with heart conditions. If yours is life threatening, then you should certainly be consulting your doctor about any type of exercise program.
