Hi everyone,
I joined this community forum for motivation and support and inspiration for the last leg of my weight loss journey. I've been losing weight and getting in shape for a few months now, and very successfully. In fact, I've come much further than in all my past diet attempts, now finally down to within 10 pounds (5 kg - I'm in Canada!) of my goal! In the past, I tended to get stuck crash dieting and binging and repeating that whole cycle, but finally with the support of a husband who can't imagine going without three meals a day and a little free time to hit the gym regularly, I've finally been able to stick to it and make real progress.
But now, I've found myself a little stuck! This last little bit seems to be the toughest part. Even though I'd been experiencing regular losses of a least a small bit every week so far, I haven't made any advances for the past two and a half weeks now in weight or size. I expect that's a combination of just getting to the point where there's not so much left to lose, so it gets harder and slower anyway, plus getting a little complacent with my regular diet and exercise routine. So, I really am hoping to find a little extra motivation so as I don't give up now.
My starting weight was around 65 kg, and now I'm at 55 kg (about 121 lb), and I'd like to reach 50 kg (about 110 lb, and yes, unfortunately, I'm a shortie, which I think makes it all the more difficult!), and that within the next several months. Ideally I'd have liked to reach my goal within a month of now, and I think I would have with steady losses, but my little stall here has made it unlikely. That's OK - it will just be slightly more difficult once the school semester begins.
What I plan on doing is changing up my routine just slightly. I'll be trying to watch my calories throughout the morning and afternoon, keep it to around 700 kcal of mostly lean protein and veggies, and then splurge a bit on dinner (since my husband and I really enjoy cooking and eating at least one more extravagant meal a day) and consume up to another half of my calories then. My goal to change here is to stop snacking while I'm preparing food, which is a bad habit I've got into lately. I really tend not to notice how all those extras add up!
For exercise, I plan to continue regular cardio and strength training, going to the gym to do at least something every day, except for usually Sunday, unless I get bored. My change is going to be to switch to running more often for cardio - I'd been doing almost exclusively elliptical cardio, since it's so fun for me, but I just want to do something a little different and see if that makes a difference. Optimally I'll try for running 4 miles most days of the week.
Other than that, I'm also going to work on drinking more water and less diet soda! Not sure if diet soda contributes to not losing weight exactly, but I just feel like more water and less soda is healthier in general...right? So I'm going to have us stop buying liters of coke and instead limit soda consumption to special treats when out of the house.
I think that about sums it up. Thanks for reading, and I'd love to hear from others in a similar situation or of a similar stature who are working on losing weight! Though I'm also glad to just have a place to record my efforts for my own personal benefit anyway, any advice would be so much appreciated! Like I said, I've never quite gotten this close to my goal before! haha
Oh, and just a little about me, just to make it maybe more interesting:
I'm a girl, just turned 23 a month ago, raised-Catholic-but-become-Presby Christian, living in Vancouver, having moved up here after getting married a while ago. I'm going back to school in the fall for a second Bachelor's degree, but right now, just kinda hanging out, enjoying a post-first-graduation vacation and acclimating to the Canadian life. I love reading books, go through nearly one a day sometimes, love working out, love good coffee and tea, and I also love shopping for clothes and cooking! (sounding a little generic so far, lol) Other than that, I have been studying Japanese for several years now, as well as now being married to my awesome and amazing and wonderful husband that just a little coincidentally happens to be Japanese as well. I do some part-time work typing transcripts, which is really great fun and I hope to make a career of actually, but other than that, not much real work experience. And... I think that's about it! Nice to meet you.
