Hi everyone,

As a newbie on here i dont really know what to expect, except from reading the forums i was impressed with the amount of support everyone gives each other.

Ok so here goes. I have started uni this year and already stacked on the weight. Obviously the cause is giving up netball, eating a very high calorie diet and a LOT of alcohol! So my goal is to lose the wieght i have gained before bikini season again (i am in Australia):coolgleamA:

So I am two days into my food and excercise diary.

Monday
- Breakfast consisted of a large bowl of berry flavoured porridge made with skim milk.
- Lunch was a foccacia with avacado, baby spinach, tomato, a small amount of cheese and pumpkin
- Snacked on an apple and herbal tea in the afternoon
- Dinner was a bowl of vegetable soup
- A few spoonfuls of forme yogurt after tea.

Tuesday
- Well i've only had breakfast so far but it consisted of 3 oatbrits with hot water and a small amount of skim milk
- For lunch i plan on trying tuna salad. I dont like tuna but have bought some light flavoured varieties to try
- Probably fruit and yogurt as an afternoon snack
- Probably a stirfry with lots of vegies and lean beef for dinner. Or maybe some steamed rice and vegies

So i didnt have time to exercise on monday but i plan on doing a fairly large gym session today. Approx 40min cardio and half an hour of resistance with some light stretching

The other major change i plan to make is cutting out alcohol or only having a glass or two of wine at special occasions. No more weekly binge drinking. My body is punishing me for it. Oh and i have a terrible sweet tooth!! Haha trying to wean myself onto fruit and yogurt as a substitute

Let me know what you think! I would appreciate any help on my new journey!

Thanks :seeya:

Heyyyy good luck!!

I'm starting uni in September and I am so nervous that I'm gonna put on weight and drink too much! Haha.

Hey im from Australia too!
Your food sounds really yummy, thats the kinda stuff I LOVE! Stir frys, porridge, foccacias!

What I found really helps is writing down your goals, here or at home and stick them up somewheer so you are reminded of them every day!

I am a massive sweet tooth as well. But You can still have some lollies every now and again, the key is moderation!

hey karmann! good luck with uni its really fun. Hmmm just really easy to fall into bad habits!

hey austin. Thanks for the tip. I dont have a huge amount of weight to lose but because i am only small. 162cm! It really shows that i have put on 5 kg.

I currently weigh 60kg and would like to at least get back to the 55kg i was before uni, although would LOVE to be 50kg again like i was about a year and a half ago! Ahh 10kg weight gain is pretty big for someone my height. Thanks for the tip of writing my goals down. I think im going to make like an inspiration board or something and stick it up in my house. A collage of photos, pictures of the bikinis im drooling over for next summer, pics of yummy healthy food and my goal weight in the centre or something. Anyway for now its off to the gym. Wish me luck guys, im finding it hard to stay motivated to exercise but work on weekends so team sport is out! I LOVE team sports

anyway i have rambled enough for today. any more hints and tips appreciated!

xx

Hey, I'm new here too! I have such a problem with going out with my friends and drinking, too. I'm just in the transition phase from college (new grad) but it still seems like going out is nothing but drinking! However, one thing I tried and worked was having a beer (super light beer) and then having soda water or tonic water with a lime in it. Everyone thinks I'm drinking but in actuality I'm not!

But good luck, you're going in the right direction and have fun!

Hi guys
well news update..

flavoured tuna tastes terrible!! :ack2: although i then tried some tofu just fried in the pan with no butter and no oil and it was ok on my salad but i think id rather just have some low fat ham. so here is todays diary

Wednesday
- A big bowl of apple flavoured porridge for breakfast
- A bunch of grapes as a snack
- I had a friend over for lunch so i made pita pizza (a very healthy one) Its delicious if you want to try it

I bought some small lite pitas (only480kj each and one pita was very filling) I put a small amount of low fat cottage cheese and a 1/4 of a small avocado on each as a base. Grilled about 1/8 of a large capsicum until i could peel the blistered skin off and roughly chop. This was then divided between the two pizzas. Then i had fried some spanish onion and shavings of pumpkin with 100g of 97% fat free ham. I have such a great non stick wok that i use no oil or butter. THis was then divided between the two pitas and baked in the oven until crispy. A few baby spinach leaves on top to serve with a big glass of chilled water and voila!!! Yummo, food like this is what losing wieght is about. So tasty, so healthy and so filling! And the best part was i was socialising without blowing my diet. My friend loved it!

I also exercised at the gym this morning. I ran 30min on the treadmill at 10km an hour but i set the treadmill on the river run program so a lot of it was uphill running! I was exhausted, which makes me want to eat even healthier so i dont undo all that hard work.

What do you guys do for exercise? Im on a budget so the gym is my cheapest option as i have already paid for it. But sometimes it can be a bit hard to be motivated to haul myself to the gym.

I think tonight for tea i will just have some steamed veggies and rice again. Its all i can be bothered making when i finish work at 7 that is healthy and im a huge fruit and veggie lover.

Thanks for reading my rant again guys :waving:

Oh and thanks for the tips with the drinks buckeye! Im definately going to try that one, i might start drinking diet coke when i go out and just tell people it has vodka in it! I hate that some of my uni friends give me a hard time when i dont drink, i added it up and some nights i would easlily have consumed more than a days worth of kilojoules in a few hours! eek no wonder i have put on weight. follow that by a drunken kebab and its a wonder i can still fit into my clothes (mind you they are a fair bit tighter)

heres to no more binges!
cheers (clinks a glass of soda water) :blush5:

hey i had this problem when I first started uni (I'm also in the Merry Old Land of Oz)! But that was nearly 4 years ago and I've only just started my journey to change.

My goal is to be a size smaller by my birthday (end of Oct) and then I figure it'll just happen to be bikini season shourtly after that anyway!

I'll keep a track on your progress!! If you need any help or motivation or anything, just PM me or track me down :) :)

GOOD LUCK!!! xox:hurray:

Good luck with your weight loss!

I'm realy worried about putting all the weight I'll hopefully lose back on at uni! Alcohol is such a fast way of putting on weight :( Vodka and Diet coke only has 56 calories in, which is quite low compared to other drinks.

Hey thanks for stopping by rosegoldsonata. I think i have finally mustered the determination to change this time, just having a little bit of support makes so much difference.

Good luck to you to pheobe! Im sure you'll enjoy a fresh new you when u start uni :)

Ok so i went out last night and i didnt drink, just on the diet coke, but then again we didnt do any dancing either but walking in heels might count a little. No exercise today because i was visiting a friend and have to go to work later.

But so far so good. I had a bowl of porridge with skim milk and a small amount of golden syrup for breakky. About 1000kj i think??? And i even said no when my friend suggested we go get kfc for lunch! Yay me :) Im either going to have soup for lunch or baked beans in pita bread. I think i feel like baked beans. Might have the soup for lunch. Hmmmm

Im also about to go buy some scales and a tape measure so i can track my progress more regularly than every couple of weeks when i go to mums.

Oh i also want to know if anyone has any good ideas for losing belly fat. Its definately my problem area. Any weight goes straight to my lower tummy. ew!

thanks for reading guys:biggrinjester:

HEY! I wish I would have practiced what I preached last night. At the bar, my friends were peer pressuring like you wouldn't believe. I had so many drinks that I'm ashamed to even mention the number! Luckily tonight I did far better. I know how hard it is but we can stick through it!!

I was talking to a trainer at my gym and he was telling me that you can do all of the ab exercises in the world, but belly fat can be directly attributed to diet and cardio. A strict diet cuts away at belly fat more than anything else. Which is great for me, NOT.

By the way, I adore ADORE baked beans. It is my favorite part about cookouts for Fourth of July. Nothing gets me more excited than a delicious hot dog off the grill and baked beans.

Good luck with everything, it sounds like you are doing great!!!! :hurray::hurray:
