Losing/Decreasing Muscle Mass

I'm not sure about how one would go about this problem. My girlfriend has overly developed calve muscles, and recently she has been doing some skipping to help with some weight loss. Now I thought that the skipping would tighten her calve muscles, but not grow them. Quite the opposite, she's already gained a CM in a month and a half, so this has compounded the origional problem of her clavs being too big.

How would she go about ridding her calvs of that excess muscle and get it in proportion to the rest of her body?

Any ideas besides overtraining?

Overtraining could lead to damage in the long run, so all I would say is stop doing calf exercises and lift everywhere else... or she can do Low-Intensity Endurance Training and put herself in a catabolic state to gradually burn the muscle.

Thanks CScheiner, seem's like a good place to start, unfortuneatly there isn't much information out there on this topic.

I've said she should stop the jump rope and see if the muscle mass decreases naturally, before it reaches a set point. But even if that happens, they'll still be a little on the big side.

are her calves too big, or are her thighs too small? i would wager its the latter, not the former.

more squats, lunges, ditch calf isolation.
