Hi everyone.

In mid-December, I decided to begin losing weight, as I am worried for my health, and I would like to have a fit looking body, something I've not had since was a young child. It is something I've never succeeded with, ever. And now in end-January, It's been terrific, with various ups and downs. I've made steady progress, so much in fact that I've lost around 10 kg in a month.

Specs:
I am 189 cm tall, in December I weight 115.0 kg and is 23 years. Therefore I was classified as a Type 1 Obese, now that I've hit 105 kg I am classified as a severely overweight person (for now). What I am wondering is if I am going to fast? I have a pretty sedentary lifestyle, and I work in an office / am a student. In this past month I've not really done any exercise, but because of intermittent fasting, I've lost a lot of weight. I am just worried that it will affect my physical health if I turn it up to eleven when I begin running/swimming in start February.

Hey Hermansen/Everyone,

First. Post.Anywhere.Ever. (besides FB, I mean)

While not as rapid as your progress, I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'm a 100% disabled Army captain, with an SBS (Spenobasilar Symphasis) Override with sidebending. My walk-around head pain is 8-9/10, and most exercise is like hitting myself in the head with a brick.

My Specs:

Age: 52
Height: 6' 0" -- 182 cm

I started at 212 lbs./96.16 kg in early November 2018, and hit 180.2 lbs/ 81.73 by EOM January 2019. I've taken a break, and have seem to hit a set point at 184 pounds. I combined intermittent fasting with a bastardized form of the Ketogenic diet I made from parts of several diets that made common sense to me. Mostly I did it keeping my mouth shut, and replacing my comfort eating with drinking water with electrolytes. Not cheap/not expensive/usually not very hungry.

I am taking a break because I'm afraid shorting myself on carbs for so long just might be a little stupid. And, like you, I want to try to add some lean muscle, and I haven't got a clue how to make that happen while on keto and doing intermittent fasting. The upside has been that the ketones really help with my pain. Supposedly, they are 50x-100x better than NSAIDS, and 10x better than steroid shots.

Bottom Line Question: can I grow lean muscle on keto? Thanks for listening.

Yes you can, I have been keto for years and have no difficulty building muscle.

I suggest looking into ketogains, while they have a commercial site selling boot camps, all the information is free and they have a great group on facebook.

however the basics are to keep macros in line with a good keto diet with adequate protein. eating calories above maintenance will build muscle if combines with the correct training.

It depends on your medical condition. You should consider some of the your previous medical history. Like if you have ever been medically affected while swimming , you should for the meantime do other activities other than swimming. If you are really interested in the activity , then try doing it but inn limited time.At first your body might note respond well but with time it will get used to it.However you should discontinue the activity in case it posses a threat to your health

Fasting is not a good idea, your body will simply adapt. You need to maintain a regular food intake and a regular exercise programme - even if it is just walking 10k+ steps a day. Your should be easily able to do that as it really only means 6-7km walking or just over an hour a day. A loss of 0.5-1kg a week is an ideal rate for me (at almost 60 with high blood pressure and weight related type 2 diabetes). Do you log your food intake? If not then I highly recommend it if only to educate you as to how much you are actually consuming (myfitnespal is a good free tool). Do this religiously for a few days to look at you calorie intake then you will have the information you need to adapt your eating habits to one that will see a reasonable weight loss without going to the extreme. Weight loss is not a race, it's a lifestyle change.

Hi... I hope you have done your medical tests? Loosing 10kg in one month is not that risky , i would say it depends upon on your workout, but if you are loosing weight without any physical workout so it is advisable for you to for complete checkup.
