Losing 50lbs simply

Ok I apologize in advance for posting this in the women's health section, as I am a guy. But as far as I could see there is no Weight Loss forum in the men's section.. and i'd imagine for my problem it doesn't really matter what sex I am.

Here's the deal, i'm 21 years old, i'm 6 feet 2 inches tall and I weigh 250-260lbs depending on what week you catch me.. I've weighed this for about 5 years now and it's gotten to the point to where i'm actually sick enough of it to do something about it, before it becomes a serious problem.

I'm looking to drop down to 200-210lbs as quickly as possible without going on any crazy crash diets as naturally as possible. I want to do this as simply as possible, meaning I don't have the time nor the money to put into a gym subscription, personal trainer, or fancy workout machines/weight sets for my house.

Up till now fast food has been a 3-4 time a week thing for me, and that's obviously the first step that's got to go. From here i'm pretty much lost. I've read up as much as I can on this forum and others but a lot of the info i've seen either doesn't apply to my situtation or just isn't possible. I work two jobs, one full-time and one part-time so I really don't have time to eat 8 meals a day, or have a detailed workout plan that involves a trip to the gym, 6 sets of this exercise, 8 of this one, cardio in between, etc all this stuff i'm reading.

Don't get me wrong i'm not looking for a quick fix to my weight loss but a lot of stuff i'm reading about is just impossible for me to work into my daily life. I would love to start walking/jogging, bicycling, anything I can do outside or in my house without equipment. Situps pushups crunches whatever it takes I will dedicate to it. I'm just looking for some guidance I guess, since sofar all the information i've read has just confused me more.

On diet I would love some suggestions on food I can get cheaply/easily and is quick to fix and/or I can get on the go. I have never dieted myself before or even cared to watch what i've eaten and now's definitely the time to start, but I have no idea where to start.

Now this post has already gone on too long so i'll end it here..

ANY advice you can give me would be helpful, thank you.

That's what I did, I tookoff the weight simply by eating less and more healthfully, ad moving more.

The details are up to you. But here are mine:

To be perfectly honest, when I lost the weight, I didn’t really count calories or fat….I saw that as I got older I needed to change how I ate and that I had to make exercise a regular feature of my daily life. I also knew that most diets didn’t work, and I had gained so much and so quickly, that I had to take the weight off and keep it off in a healthy way. My doctor used to call me – often – to make sure I was taking care of myself!

So, I guess I did more of a “food pyramid” /low carb diet – that is, I ate mostly greens and fruit, with a little protein thrown in there. The thing is, I still eat like that…it wasn’t exactly a diet. I still only have carbs once a day, with dinner, but if I go out, I allow myself a few treats.

I do a workout video every single morning – either weights or yoga/pilates, for about 45 minutes, and I do the bike or walking just about every single night, again, for about 45 minutes. And I do double of that every Sunday!

I started out at 138. It took me five months to lose 20 lbs….a few more months to lose another 5..and I still haven’t lost the last 5. I still weigh the same as after I had the 2nd baby – I was 108 when we got married, 113 after my first baby, and finally 118 after the 2nd. I weigh between 111-116 depending if it’s after holidays or not!

But you have to do what works for you. Like, I’m happy with coffee and yogurt for breakfast and salad for lunch, and going on the bike and doing exercise videos - but I know that not everyone is……….such as my sister – she prefers to restrict her food more since she doesn’t like to exercise.

You have to be honest with yourself. You have to decide why do you want to lose weight, and what are you going to do to get it off and keep it off? Because not everyone is meant to be thin, and that’s okay. Not everyone wants to sweat twice a day and deny themselves goodies on a regular basis…………

So - good luck!

Good for you. First thing... get in the right frame of mind. Be open to suggestions. You already may be.

Stop eating the fast food. Find a way to refuel your body every 3-4 hours. Work or no work... you need to find a way. It can be 5 minute break where you eat a few crackers with tuna. Without this your body will bottom out eventually.

Get some free weights. Yes invest a few bucks because you can do almost any exercise with free weights. No you do not need a fancy machine. Yes you can do pushups, squats, etc to start and you may see results. But you will need to eventually progress onto something else.

Get a weekly schedule. Without a schedule you are more likely to deviate from the plan. Make it specific. On Monday I will walk for 45 minutes, on Tuesday I will strength train the upper body at 3 sets of 12 reps and do 15 minutes medium intensity walking uphill, etc...

Your cardio needs to be done at different intensity levels and at different session lengths. You need to strength train each muscle 1-2 times per week.

My best advice... keep it simple. Just like you want to. Don't get involved in counting this calorie and that calorie. But you must eat well and often. Without that, your body is basically working at a less than great status. All the extra working out will not be AS BENEFICIAL as it would be if you refueled every few hours.

I like Pilates because it is something that can be done FOR LIFE. You don't have to have equipment, either, though there are many low cost options. I can exercise in my hotel room on vacation or business trip.

Check your library - I've found a ton of books, although I started with a video and one class.

I personally don't do well with deprivation, so instead of dieting, I'm eating plenty of healthy stuff, which makes me not so interested in the not so healthy stuff because I'm FULL!!

Just for the record...

I deleted the part that had the email in LivefromNYs post...

Email is private, and there are legal implications in posting a private email in a public forum. It was not bad, it wasn't against the rules, but its best if private emails are not made public on this board.

5 years with 3-4 times eating out a week..wow seems you are sitting good weighin in around 250-260 i weigh 270 dont eat out period. Once you start gettin comments from other people about how you look it really wants you to do more so at first its gonna be a struggle other then that should be CAKE!
