Fruits should always be part of your diet if you want to lose weight. Fruits are very nutritious, satisfying and refreshing. They are rich in iron, Vitamin C, Vitamin A and nutritious fiber. Fruits have low calorie levels and are known to have important antioxidants. You can eat fruits as a dessert and the fact that they are sweet means that they can alert you when you are eating excessively. Examples of healthy fruits that you can include in your diet include mango, dried papaya, bananas, blueberries and frozen grapes.

Want to know the truth about weight loss and hear the ridiculous lies you've been told? Read on...
1) Myth: "You need a fast metabolism to lose weight"

The Truth: As people gain weight, their resting metabolic rate speeds up - therefore disproving this myth. This means that when you are bigger you need to eat more to sustain your weight. This means that your metabolism is sped up but won't mean that you're burning fat fast at all.

2) Myth: "Low fat products are great for losing weight"

The Truth: Foods you find in 'healthy ranges' in supermarkets or products marked with 'low fat' or 'fat free' labels don't mean that they are free from calories - in fact they are more likely to contain more calories because of the amount of extra flavourings and sugar added to them. If you really want something that is genuinely low fat, look at the label and make sure it has 3 grams or less fat per 100 grams.

3) Myth: "Being fat is genetic"

The Truth: Obesity is very rarely a genetic condition. You are more likely to inherit the bad lifestyle habits from your parents and guardians rather than actually being born with a gene that makes you fat. Being big isn't the only problem that you may face if you are overweight but high blood pressure and diabetes may also be a side effect of excess weight.

4) Myth: "Diets never work"

The Truth: Starving yourself doesn't work, and neither do fad diets which you will give up on after a few weeks. However, if you think about dieting, it is really just making healthy food and exercise choices. This type of diet works well because you are staying active and getting a balanced diet without overindulging and having more calories than your body can process.

5) Myth: "Frozen vegetables aren't as nutritious as fresh vegetables"

The Truth: 5 portions of fruit and veg a day is what you should aim for - regardless of whether it is frozen or fresh. Fresh fruit often tastes nicer, and raw veg is nice in salads. Frozen veggies have been proven to keep the nutrients locked in for longer - even during transit. However, boiling them can often results in many nutrients being lost - try steaming your vegetables instead!

6) Myth: "Pasta and bread make you fat"

The Truth: Although bread and pasta are high in carbohydrates, it is only over eating these types of foods which can make us gain weight. Because of this, many people avoid high carb foods when on a diet - you can however just limit your intake instead. Also, rather than having white bread or pasta, switch to whole grains. You will also find that the foods you eat with these products can also be culprits when it comes to weight gain - don't blame the pasta and bread - it could well be the creamy pasta sauce that boosted your calories or the sugary jam on your toast. Try low fat spreads and tomato pasta sauce instead!

Whey Protein

Protein is one of the best weight loss supplements you can utilize for fast weight loss. Protein essentially suppresses the appetite which is very helpful in losing weight. Protein also helps build muscles and the more muscles you have, the more calories you will be burning daily. Whey protein is very easy to prepare so you don't have to worry about preparing healthy meals when you have very limited time.

Hi,

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

CLA is an omega-3 fatty acid that is believed to aid in weight loss. Take note that this is not just one of the safe weight reduction supplements but it also has anti-cancer properties. There are several animal and human studies which prove that CLA can help in the reduction of body fat. CLA can be found primarily in dairy products and beef so if you consume diet primarily composed of fruits and vegetables, you may have insufficient CLA levels which can lead to weight gain.

No.

If you are trying to maintain a caloric deficit, drinking your calories is one of the worse things you can actually do.

Eat real food, it will taste better, keep you satisfied for longer and you can control what goes in.

Don't Diet, Eat Sensibly

New results of long-term research has revealed that when it comes to calories, what you eat does make a difference. In a study that tracked the results of two groups of people eating either a low fat or a low carbohydrate diet, it was found that those who limited their carbs not only lost weight more quickly, they kept it off years later, particularly in the problem abdominal area. This is an important finding that shows just how detrimental carbohydrates can be to your weight loss goals.

It is not easy to lose weight and that is why you need to pay some attention on the type of food you eat. Physical exercise alone cannot help you to lose weight but it must be accompanied with a healthy diet.

Hi,

Most people wishing to lose weight try many weight loss programs and many of them do not work. There are however many natural foods that if taken will help you lose weight faster and in a healthy way. To save you time, I will share with you some of the best proven foods that should form your recipe in your weight loss plan. These foods reduce hunger, improve your metabolism, suppress your craving for starch and eventually make you lose weight.

1. Beans
Beans contain a digestive hormone called cholecystokinin which is among the best weight loss companion as it suppresses appetite naturally. Cholecystokinin helps to hold food in the stomach for longer. Beans have also been proven to keep blood sugar at the right levels in order to stave off hunger for longer. Beans have high amounts of fiber which lower cholesterol levels.

2. Eggs
Egg white is rich in protein and helps suppress hunger by making you feel full for long. Taking eggs helps you consume less. Eggs also prevent blood sugar spikes which increases craving for food.

3. Spinach
These tender and flavorful leafs are rich in iron, vitamin K and folic acid. Spinach also contains antioxidants that fight diseases i.e. vitamin c, beta-carotene and phytochemical lutein which keep the eyes safe from macular degeneration caused by aging.

4. Salad
Large calorie intake through meals can be reduced by starting with a big salad. A study has shown that eating large salad food intake largely salad also boosts vitamin C and, lycopene, folic acid and carotenoids which help to fight diseases.

5. Green tea
Catechin antioxidant in green tea increases the rate of metabolism hence burning more fats. Research has proved that taking green tea significantly increases metabolism causing a drop in body mass index. Green tea also lowers a person's cholesterol level.

6. Almond butter and raw almonds
Almond butter are rich in vitamin E which is an antioxidant. Almonds are good for the hair and the skin. It also has a lot of Vitamin B2 and magnesium which help to do away with stress and calm nerves. When you are stressed, you usually gain weight as a result of the release of cortisol in the body. Vitamin B2 in almonds increases your energy content.

7. Yogurt
Yogurt is a good belly-flattening substance that is packaged with probiotics bacteria which is useful in reducing fats absorbed by your body. There are low fat versions of yogurt which have less sodium than the regular yogurt and have no preservatives or sweeteners.

8. Grapefruit
Eating half a grapefruit or drinking a grapefruit juice before meals will help you drop several pounds in a short time. Grapefruit has phyrochemicals which reduce the amount of insulin in the body. This process causes the conversion of calories to energy instead of fats.

9. Hot red pepper
A bowl of spicy pepper eaten on regular bases plays an important role to your weight loss. Capsaicin component in pepper is a magic appetite suppressor which helps you lose weight. Other weight loss foods include: High-fiber cereals, vinegar, pears, soup, lean beef and cauliflower.

Hi,

Did you know you could burn calories by laughing? A study at Vanderbilt University showed you could lose up to 50 calories by laughing 10-15 minutes a day. When laughing, people burned 20% more calories. Laughter has other health benefits that include stress reduction, immune system boosting, natural pain relief and increased blood flow (good for the heart) - no joking either.:rotflmao:

Why would you waste calories on something like a bagel? A bagel has about 200 kcal on its own, and natural jam will easily add 50 more to that at least. For 250 calories you can get something a lot better than a bagel with jam.

And why a shake? What about just eating proper food, and balance your nutrients that way?

Spaghetti squash? Again, something that I wouldn't really want to eat - pasta is pretty high in calories, and there's better stuff I can make with my daily allowance of calories than boring old spaghetti.

Scrambled white eggs sounds awful. I mean, why bother eating the egg at all if you remove everything that actually tastes of anything? Eggs do not contain a lot of fat, so I don't know why your scrambled eggs would contain a lot. An average egg has about 80 calories - scrambled eggs from three of them, some vegetables, and you have a healthy meal under 300 kcals that actually tastes of something.

lopm, Why would you reply to a thread of April 22, who's OP is obviously inactive, and with something totally unrelated to the subject being discussed?

Maybe I'm just too cynical, but are you copying online articles on the forum? -If so- Don't bother, we already have plenty.

Also, you may want to make sure you don't contradict yourself:

I'm sure you know that, lots of fruit = lots of carbs, right? I don't see why would you suggest fruits over vegetables on a low-carb approach, but I'm sure you already thought about this...

And it all fits with the Conjugated Linoleic Acid, Protein shakes, African Mango Seed and toasted bagel with jam you already suggested on other threads, right?

I don't believe in having diet shakes either.
Give me proper food every time...

I really cannot see any point to them.

The most successful way to lose weight and keep it off over the long term is to adopt healthy eating habits that you can keep up over the long term. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to have a diet shake every morning for the rest of their lives. I am sure that plenty of businesses would like us to buy them forever - but cannot say that it is a good solution for anyone but their shareholders and employees.

You can get excellent nutrition from proper food if you choose wisely. I tend to prefer fruit and Greek yoghurt to powders and E numbers anyway. I get amazing nutrition from my fruit and yoghurt.

Like San - I think that bagels are a waste of calories, could never fancy egg whites without the yolks (unless we are talking meringues). I must admit that I have never had spaghetti squash - but I have hardly had pasta in the last six years... It is no miss really - and I have to say that pasta is almost always eaten with a lot of sauce and often the sauce brings a lot of calories. Certainly the sauces that I like best. LOL the only times that I have had a pasta has been either in a restaurant or at a friend's house - and there is no opportunity to substitute the pasta for this vegetable equivalent in those cases. I might have been tempted to try it if I was having trouble cutting my portions of real pasta down to an acceptable portion size and felt that I needed to eat it. As it is - it would just encourage me to have those sauces.

When planning a healthy diet, think about small steps that can help you change your diet. Then commit yourself towards these steps and gradually you will find yourself taking a healthy diet even without noticing.:waving:

There are thousands of diet plans available online but they are somehow difficult to follow, especially if they include those food items which you almost hate. So, instead of following any of those, why shouldn't you design a customized and healthy one for yourself? You can do that according to your taste and the foods you like. Nutritionists recommend that your diet should include all the foods in a balanced way. It means that the food should not only be high in vitamin alone but also balance all the necessary proteins and carbohydrates.:coolgleamA:

Apples. There's definitely something to the dictum that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Take your pick from red, yellow or green apples and you have a food source that's low in calories, sodium and is virtually fat-free. If you're craving for something sweet, munch on apples instead of a calorie-laden dessert. What makes apples such an important food in weight loss is the fact that its pectin content releases body fats and helps suppress one's appetite. They also help make you feel fuller, faster.

There are so many diet plans available, it is often difficult to choose which ones can benefit you the most and which can have the most effective results. It isn't just about the initial weight loss either - we all want to be able to find a diet plan that will help us sustain that weight loss as well. So what can the raw food diet weight loss plan really do for you? And is it as easy to sustain as you might think?:coolgleamA:

4 Foods To Help You Lose
Want To Curb Your Appetite And Stop Sugar Cravings? Then Put These On Your Grocery List.
Thirty billion a year -- that's about how much Americans spend on slim-down products, many of which don't even work. A better way to get real weight-loss results? Go grocery shopping. New research points to more than a dozen foods, from beans to beef, that can help you fight hunger, kick your candy addiction, boost your metabolism-and ultimately shed pounds. And some of these superfoods deliver health bonuses too.
1. Eggs. Skip the bagel this morning. Eggs, which are full of protein, will help you feel fuller longer-a lot longer. A multicenter study of 30 overweight or obese women found that those who ate two scrambled eggs (with two slices of toast and a reduced-calorie fruit spread) consumed less for the next 36 hours than women who had a bagel breakfast of equal calories. Other research has shown that protein may also prevent spikes in blood sugar, which can lead to food cravings.
2. Beans. You've probably never heard of cholecystokinin, but it's one of your best weight-loss pals. This digestive hormone is a natural appetite suppressant. So how do you get more cholecystokinin? One way, report researchers at the University of California at Davis, is by eating beans: A study of eight men found that their levels of the hormone (which may work by keeping food in your stomach longer) were twice as high after a meal containing beans than after a low-fiber meal containing rice and dry milk. There's also some evidence that beans keep blood sugar on an even keel, so you can stave off hunger longer. Heart-health bonus: High-fiber beans can lower your cholesterol.

3. Salad. Do you tend to stuff yourself at meals? Control that calorie intake by starting with a large salad (but hold the creamy dressing). In a study of 42 women at Penn State University, those who ate a big, low-cal salad consumed 12 percent less pasta afterward-even though they were offered as much as they wanted. The secret, say researchers, is the sheer volume of a salad, which makes you feel too full to pig out. Health bonus: A study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that people who ate one salad a day with dressing had higher levels of vitamins C and E, folic acid, lycopene, and carotenoids-all disease fighters-than those who didn't add salad to their daily menu.
4. Green tea. The slimming ingredient isn't caffeine. Antioxidants called catechins are what help speed metabolism and fat burning. In a recent Japanese study, 35 men who drank a bottle of oolong tea mixed with green tea catechins lost weight, boosted their metabolism, and had a significant drop in their body mass index. Health bonus: The participants also lowered their (bad) LDL cholesterol. :seeya:
