looking to shed weight

I'm a 23 year old, former high school football player (former lineman, so you can get an idea of the build, solid muscle mass, with a lot of fat on top) i'm about 6'1" and between 235-240 lbs. I want to slim down, i guess my goal is to get down somewhere near 200lbs. i own an elliptical, and have resistance bands, and don't want to pay for a gym.

2 years ago, i weighed around 270lbs and i got inspired and dropped down to about 210lbs. but my last year in college and first year our of school i put a lot of that weight back on. I can't seem to find something that works now that i work full time and don't have all the time in the world to work out.

anyone have any ideas of programs or routines i can do with the elliptical and resistance bands.

i have been trying to use the elliptical about 30 minutes or so a day, but i just got it 2 weeks ago, so i pretty much just started again. same with the resistance bands.

also my diet is ok, but inconsistant. one week i am good about what i eat, the next week i have no willpower. generally my daily diet is as follows:
granola and yogurt for breakfast.
a gronola bar mid morning.
an apple, granola bar, and snack size bag of pretzels for lunch.
an apple and granola bar in the afternoon.
then usually a normal size dinner.

does this sound like its enough, i may not be getting enough calories to burn the fat off.

any help and/or encouragement would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, everyone

First and foremost you need to work on a diet. for one, you definately arent getting enough calories, secondly, you arent get protein other than in that yogurt. Browse around these forums for a good idea of what you should be eating. Basically, 5-6 small meals throughout the day, with a macronutrient ratio of 40%/30%/30% of protein/fat/carbs to start, and tweak to suit you.

Maybe go over to http://www.t-nation.com and checkout the T-Dog 2.0 diet. You dont need to follow it to the tee, but the article gives you a lot of the right ideas and things to shoot for.

I also suggest looking to HIIT cardio. I do my HIIT on my elliptical and i LOVE it. Do a search on the forums for HIIT to learn the basics. You'll find its very effective at burning fat.

As far as a resistance training program, im not sure what a resistance band is, so ill leave this up to someone else to help you with.

Just remember, your progress is only going to be as good as your diet.
