Looking to lose a bit of weight and trim up

so i want to lose a bit of weight and tone up.
Ive started cycling to work, which is 18 miles a day - which is fine, and now im looking to start doing a bit of gym work to sort my upper body stuff out.
So im thinking cycling is going be my cardio and then some weights etc.. for upper body - does this seem like a viable idea to people ? Ive also managed to stop smoking so far, and im watching what i eat now - does all this seem right what im doing or tihnking of doing - any advice ?

Weights should be for upper and lower body. The kind of work you do by cycling 18miles is not even similar to the kind of work you do squatting 180lb. Granted, you may do a little less strength work with your legs than with your upper body for recovery purposes, but it still needs to be in your program.

Otherwise, you're on the right track. Go into the weight training section and look in the stickies for more specific advice and programs.

Your a making a very good start, once you feel physically in better shape you can also add a weight program for lower body. But your biggest move was cutting smoking which will give you a 30-40% lift in fitness in just a few days. Keep it mate!
