Looking to loose the belly...

I've finally decided I'm sick of the spare tire I have. would love to get rid of it so i signed up at the local gym. anyhow I have a few questions..

HRM's. are they any use to folks trying to loose weight?

Supplements like Muscle Milk or whatnot, would they be helpful or a hindrance?

I plan to start with mainly cardio then at some weight training to it. I'm a weakling to start thou.. comes from being an IT weenie and then just doing management duties for construction of homes. Right now I'm at 184ish (unreliable scale will soon be replaced... varies to much over a few tests of 30 seconds apart) 5'7". Gaining some muscle would be nice but just getting rid of the fat is the biggest interest.

Belly

My belly and I are like two roommates who do not like each other very much. I often wish I could get a new roommate, but it ain't happening.

I guess I could work on our relationship, but then again that would mean learning to actually like my belly.

lol

Proven Steps to loose belly fat

1. 1. Cut all"white"carbohydrates and fried foods out of your diet. Few things will help you reduce your abdominal fat faster than cutting highly-processed carbohydrates out of your diet. These foods, sometimes referred to as "white carbohydrates", include anything made with refined flour and/or refined sugars.

2. Focus on eating lean proteins, veggies, beans and "good" fats. By eating small balanced meals containing protein, fresh or frozen vegetables, beans, and healthy fats several times per day i can loose belly fat quickly yet maintain a high energy level. Maintaining energy and not feeling "crappy" is essential and makes it much easier to stay on any diet. Good protein choices include just about any lean meat, fish, eggs, egg substitutes, and low-sugar dairy products. Fresh veggies, beans and legumes, and small amounts of fresh fruit are the best carbohydrates sources when you're trying to lose weight.

3. Do shorter, but more intense, workouts that incorporate both strength and cardio training. Here's something that may shock you: jogging, bike riding, walking and other forms of low-intensity exercise are not the best choices when it comes to fat loss. You're going to burn more belly fat in less time by focusing on shorter, higher-intensity workout sessions that incorporate both Cardio/Aerobic training and weight training.

4. Make a few healthy lifestyle changes. If you're not getting enough sleep it's going to be very difficult to find the energy to exercise and eat well in order to slim down and lose your belly fat. Consuming alcoholic beverages slows down your body's natural fat burning processes due to the way alcohol affects the liver.

I don't have a very high opinion of the meal replacement aspect of these things. There's arguments on both sides for those type of supplements. Personally I do use a whey protein drink that supplies a lot of protein and aminos when I work out, but I don't use the 'bulking' formula. I've personally noticed that it does help. For me. I don't know whether it would help you or not. I use one of GNC's brand protein powders.

And as for biking, walking, running, etc. for fat loss not being that effective or a good choice for fat loss? I have to cry bullshit on that statement.:icon_bs: For you, IT guy whose butt warms a desk chair most of the time (I'm a computer geek too, so I know, and it added to my bulk), anything that gets you out there and moving is a good start. This will initially contribute to burning fat. As you get in better shape you will want to intensify your workouts... incorporating the weight training, etc. But it sounds like you've already figured that out.

Getting out there and moving around, changing your eating habits, these will help you in getting started on weight/fat loss. Weight training, building up some muscle, that can help with the fat loss too. I do an intense walk during my lunch break twice a week, and its helped me take off more fat. Granted I do a lot of other activities... but it IS effective for fat loss.

Have you read through the stickies yet? There's a ton of really good info in there.

I'm not IT anymore.. but it still warms a chair enough, just dealing with phone calls and paperwork. last few days though i've been in the field most the day just working with the guys to get a house done. sadley a few days of being on my feet all day means nothing.

Silly bug seems to be compressing the formatted post into one block of text.... Tell ya what software.. I'll let you talk to my computer in a bit and let it tell you horror stories of what has happened to it over the years.... maybe then you will stop messing up!
