Looking for opinions on this "diet"

Hi guys I just wanted to ask your opinion on a diet (for lack of a better word) that I am trying out. It's not a diet that I found online or anything like that it's just what I think could be a good idea and I just want to get your opinion on it and whether it would work.

My goal with this diet is to lose weight. Whether it will be fast or slow remains to be seen but that’s the overall goal. Please feel free to give your opinions if this is a bad idea. That's why I'm writing this in the first place!

I just thought that if I lower my carbohydrate intake substantially I would lose weight. Basically my thought was that if I stopped eating stuff like rice and pasta I would lose weight. So here is what I'm doing:

BREAKFAST:
- A bowl of cereal + milk
OR
- A ham and cheese sandwich + glass of diet green tea (its sweetened with splenda and according to the nutritional facts it has zero calories and >1g of carbs)

LUNCH:
- Bag of steamed vegetables (a combination of carrots, green beans, broccoli, red peppers, baby cob corn and sugar snap peas)
- Chicken or Pork or Meat steak
- Water
- An occasional fruit (maybe a banana or grapes)

DINNER:
- Bag of steamed vegetables (a combination of carrots, green beans, broccoli, red peppers, baby cob corn and sugar snap peas)
- Chicken or Beef steak or Pork steak
- Water or diet green tea (same one as in breakfast)

Also would like to add that on the same day that I started eating this way I have started working out every day on the treadmill for 60 minutes alternating every 5 minutes between walking (3.5 mph) and jogging (5 mph). My workouts are always in the afternoon after my lunch and before my dinner.

Some basic info about me: I'm a 21 year old male about 5 feet and 9 inches tall and weigh about 190 lbs.

So what do you guys think? Is this a good idea? Should I be able to lose weight quickly like this? I know everyone’s metabolism is different but whatever. Thanks guys I really appreciate it!

I think that your off to a great start. First thing that I noticed on your diet that I didn't like was the cereal and milk. Try scrambling a couple eggs and having a glass of orange juice instead. It's actually good to have protein in your diet especially in the morning, just don't go crazy with it. Also you forgot to mention how much of everything your eating. If you can make your dinner smaller and your breakfast bigger that would really make a difference. I really think you're off to a great start. Try to get some weight training in there too. I believe you will see some very good results from your diet, definitely after implementing those tips I gave you. Good luck:)

Hey thanks for the reply! I really appreciate it!

In terms of the size of my meals. I'd say that lunch is definitely where I eat the most followed by dinner. So I guess I will have to change that! It's hard for me to explain exactly how big my serving are but I'm trying to keep them at a normal size.

About breakfast, I seriously doubt that a couple of scrambled eggs and a glass of orange juice will be enough for me until lunch but I could try and see how it goes. And about making my breakfast bigger, any suggestions? Do you mean bigger in size or with more stuff than just eggs and juice? Thanks again!

Yeah no problem! Glad to help.

But I guess what I meant to say is you should try and make your breakfast the biggest meal of your day. But I understand that we don't always have the time in the morning to cook a big meal and all but do the best you can, but instead of the cereal have eggs and juice or water anything besides milk. Milk can really slow the weight loss progress down. I usually had the same breakfast every morning before the program I'm on now and that would consist on 4 eggs scrabbled a glass of non-concentrated OJ and a banana. That's just to give you an idea of what you could do. Make it your own. Make sure you get enough to eat in the morning. Does that help?

Yes definitely! I'm gonna try that exact same breakfast and see how it goes. Thanks again!

to control portion size you should use a medium-small sized plate, one serving should do you good. you should drink water with or after your meal, water will make you feel full. another thing, as for eggs I would use eggs whites cause it's just a healthy alternative plus that's where all the protein is. Always have fruit with your meals. Not only will water make you full but proteins and fruit also make you full. Like dvillabon said you should eat 3 healthy meals and snacks in between, this will not only keep you full and energized throughout the day but will also boost your metabolism helping you burn more calories. giving if you eat the correct foods.
