Looking for home cardio machine

Hello everyone I was looking for some insight into what a good home machine would be for cardio. I personally was planning on getting a spin bike(still looking at what kind to get, not really sure) but I was also suggested to look at treadmills and elliptical's.

I appreciate any advice/suggestions (I am open to other cardio machines, those are just the 3 that i've really been suggested/looked into)

As long as you like the activity, and will use it, any equipment is good.

There are pros and cons to each type of machine. For example - I have a recumbent bike I like it because it is easy to use and I do it while watching TV, I don't like it becuase my butt falls asleep if I am on it for more than 30 minutes at a time. Ellipticals are really tall (generally) so if you have a low ceiling in the room that you are planning to work out in, they may not be the best idea. I had a treadmill and I LOVED it but it needed lots of maintenance and was really expensive to fix (not all are like that). My favorite cardio equipment I have for in my house right now is an aerobic step and some fitness DVD's! Read reviews of the equipment you are thinking about and think about how and when you will use it in your home to find out what features will be important to you.

What kind of workouts are you planning on doing with your spin bike? Have you taken spin classes before? (Holy intense Batman!!!) :)

I have not taken any classes though i would be interested to if I end up going the spin bike route.

Yeah having a numb bum is no fun, but I am sure if I was consistent with it and started doing routines (climbing and all that good stuff) it wouldn't be that bad, I am hoping anyways.

I don't even plan to have the equipment in a room with a tv, or at least facing the other way. I want to be able to just listen to music and focus on what I have to get done. I am seriously pumped up to start and I am anxious to get something soon to start :)

Almost a week of healthy food through juicing, whole wheats, fruits, veggies etc. No soda or deep fried food or any of that crap.

I think I would like a treadmill if I was a bit more active, I honestly do not see me running on one anytime soon. Even when I was in highschool and was more fit running still gave me the worst cramps.

Anyways I think I've decided to go with a spin bike, I just gotta find the right brand / price to go with it :D

Treadmill aren't just for running. You can get a great workout walking on a treadmill with an incline... sort of like a stair machine... or just by walking fast. Treadmills are really great, because you do a long workout, run for 1 minute... keep walking for 10, run for 1... then after a week or 2, maybe do 10 walk, 2 run, 10 walk, run, or whatever. They really are very versatile.
For me, bikes are just boring. If you get one you like, great... but to me, a treadmill allows you to do many different types of exercises and intensities.
..........
One more thing: BUY the BEST you can afford! You don't need all the stupid bells and whistle, but if it doesn't feel good, and doesn't work right, it's worthless.
I got my treadmill at Sears, and have a 10 year service plan and guarantee on it. Every year, they'll even come out and maintain for me if I want (so far I've only done once every 2 years)
Sure the plans cost a bit, but I think it was worth every penny.

I went to look at some stuff today and I am almost convinced now of buying a treadmill over a spinbike.

For my price range these were the two that I've been most interested in.

I am leaning towards the Nautilus one currently, but the bowflex one is 200 dollars cheaper on the site then it was in the store, with a better warrenty.

Haven't decided yet, if anyone is familiar with either please feel free to comment.

Ebay seems to have some bargain equipment sometimes because people buy the stuff then never use them, and they decide to sell it cheap to get rid of it!

I do not think I'd be willing to buy used gym equipment. I just wouldn't want to take the chance. Anyways I decided on the bowflex 7 series. Best price/value I could find through a local retailer. Pretty exicited. hoping to get it by wednesday

it will definitely last!

Yeah I am pretty pumped. Gonna call to find out if I can finance it today assuming my car gets fixed and doesn't break my wallet.

Hurray
