Hey all, im an 18 yr old guy whos kind of chubby and im looking to lose about 15 pounds. I've been running the last two weeks about 4 times a week and i lost a few pounds and that certainly felt good. but in addition to running, i had a few questions, i feel i should be doing other workouts like "core" workouts. what are some good exercises for this? i have almost zero equipment with the exception of two 15 lb dumbbells. and when running, should i be running at intervals or a set speed for 30-40 minutes? if its intervals what should those be? thanks guys just looking to get in better shape before summer and feel healthier all around

There are a series of "sticky" posts in the exercise area. Read those and pay particular attention to the one titled "The Conceptual Side of Weight Lifting". It gives you a LOT of information about adding strength training to your workouts.

Also keep in mind that what you eat is important. Your diet (in terms of your whole eating plan, not as in "go on a") should be healthy - reasonable portions, and a good balance of nutrients (protein, carbs, and healthy fats).

Hi,
If you want to do core workouts, I would suggest you begin with body weight exercises such as push ups and variations of it such as diamond, wide grip and normal push ups. As far as the running, it really depends on what you are capable of doing.

Although, in the beginning you should concentrate on small sets like 10 rounds intensive running for short period of time. This will get your leg muscles used to running and from then on you can increase your repetitions doing them for longer period of times.

If you haven't done much lifting two 15 lb dumbbells can give you a variety of options for circuit training. If you can use your track or football field for sprints that would be perfect for intervals. Use the dumbbells and make a 5 exercise list like
wood chops ( swing a dumbbell slowly like you would an axe,do both sides 10-15 reps
leg raises
dumbbell presses
row
curls
do all of these with lil time in between as possible and once you make it through all 5 take a minute break and do it again if you can, work up to 4 sets all the way through and then either get heavier weights or mix it up.
