Looking for book recommendations

Hi everyone,

I'm hopeing some folks here could recommend me some quality books on nutrition and healthy eating and a comprehensive exercise book. There is just so much out there, I'm looking for something up to date focused on weight loss on the nutritional side and one covering a wide range exercise wise from cardio workouts to power lifting and core. Thanks a lot I appreciate the suggestions.

That was a helpful thread, thanks man! From what I read I believe I may look into an undergrad text on nutrition. I have taken an "exercise science" course back in high school that might give me at least the rough background for understanding the material.

I've looked at two books on amazon on the training side of things.

The first is:
Strength Training Anatomy-2nd Edition - Frederic Delavier

Or the other one is:
The Men's Health Gym Bible: Includes Hundreds of Exercises for Weightlifting - Michael Mejia

Do you know of these books or authors? Have any opinions?

Thanks again.

The first book you list is great if you're interested in learning anatomy. He has some of the best drawings I've seen highlighting muscle anatomy.

I would ditch the second book and go with Practical Programming written by Mark Rippetoe.

Strength Training Anatomy-2nd Edition - Frederic Delavier is an excellent book. It's required reading by my personal trainer.
He's also written a book called Your Body Your Life Yourself. It's brand new and is available online through the publisher, Tate Publishing. He has helped me lose 40 pounds so far.

I've been reading a lot of books on emotional eating, it's quite interesting. Most of the books state we are all one way or the other have emotional eating problems, like eating when were tired, bored, unhappy, lonely and so one. It seem to help me as well, because now I noticed what emotion is make me eat. Good luck with your weight loss, Lise

Hello Again, emotional eating books

I have two books that I really liked, the first one is

Eating Less, Say Goodbye to Overeating by Gillian Riley. I had to order this one from the UK I'm not sure if Chapters has it or Amazon, but it's quite an eye opener.

The end of diets, Healing Emotional Hunger, by Dilia De La Altagracia.
I kind of prefer this one as it covers quite a bit more.

I'm also presently reading Dr. Phil, I never really read one of his books yet, but he seems to be talking about Emotional Hunger as well.

All the best,
Lise

Dr. Phil I would not read.

Shit, the man got in trouble for trying to pass off weight loss pills with exaggerated claims.

He = Joke IMO

I'm not a fan of Dr Phil myself....

To update, I did end up buying Strength Training Anatomy and think it's a great book. Very nice illustrations.

I also ended up buying - The Body Fat Solution by Tom Venuto.

I thought it was a really good book too, seeing as I read it in two long sessions and I'm the type of person that usually spreads a book out.

There is nothing ground shattering in that book and most of the information I was already aware of but he really adds a high level of common sense that has seemed to sit very well with me and I've been motivated since.

So far I've lost a legitimate 10 lbs since I first made this thread. And the first two weekends I was still drinking on the weekends. This past weekend I was able to abstain for drinking all together. I haven't not drank any alcohol what so ever for an entire week for probably about a year so it says a lot. I've also been back in the gym 5 days a week. I got a year membership so no excuses there. Circuits and supersets of Clean and jerks, squats, dead-lifts, lunges, rows and presses have been my main course of action.

Another thing I've done to keep me on track is create an Excel spreadsheet to track and graph my weight loss over the year. I made up an "Ideal loss" graph based on a loss of 1% my total weight each week. So far I have been sticking really close to it. I've also taken inch measurements and been finding my current one rep Max's for various exercises. I will update my weight each week and inches and strength gain monthly.

I set a re-occurring task on my computer with windows calender that gives me a pop-up reminder every week at weigh in time.

So anyways, that's how things have been going for me if anyone was interested.
