Looking For Advice

Ok, basically I have started to diet for the first time in my life. Im 24 years old and have been over weight for most of my adult life. Im 6ft1 and weight about 18 stone.

Up until now ive always had a very unhealthy diet and I dont go to the gym or anything.

Up until now my food intake has consisted off:-

Morning:-

A Tracker Bar (Chocolate Biscuit) + 2 Fingers of Short Bread. Sometimes this would be replaced with a roll with two sausages.

Afternoon:-

Large Cheese topped roll usually with two meats (like cornation chicken/sausage/ham/pestrami) plus cheese and mayonaise. A cake, a packet of crisps and 500ml bottle of normal Coke. Sometimes i'd have a packet of malteasers in the afternoon or a packet of polo mints.

Evening:-

Large meal, usually microwaved or deep fat fried. Things like 1Kg Lasagne's or a Large oven cooked pizza to myself, or fried chicken, beans, chips, onion rings etc etc. You get the picture not very health evening meal at all. That would be followed by junk food, chocolate bars, crisps, nuts etc etc.

2-3 times a week the evening meal would be replaced with Take-Away food. Things like a Large Pizza from Dominos (the kind with the cheese in the base) and two starters with dips or a Curry with Rice/Naan Bread and two starters. Also I was drinking up to another 2L of Coke every evening.

The reason why im listing all that garbage is to highlight how much I ate on a daily basis but always stayed at the same weight. I dont know if that means i have a good metabolism but here's hoping.


Anyway, im no good at exercise, im just too lazy, maybe its something i'll will myself to do in the future but just now im concentrating solely on my diet. Im lucky to have a good will power and for the last two weeks have stuck to a strict diet plan with ease. Only thing is I dont know if im missing anything major out so would like people to offer any advice on my current eating habbits and maybe let me know if im likely to lose weight.



Currently Eating:-

Morning:- Not big on eating in the morning so just now just having an apple.

Afternoon:-

Veggie Soup (80 Cals/0.3g Fat) + 1 Small Low Fat Yoghurt + 3 Pieces of Fruit

Evening:-

Soup (200 Cals/1g Fat) + 1x 200g Pack of Ready Cooked Chicken ( 240 Cals/47g Protein/4g Fat)

Also drinking only water or Sugar Free diluting juice throughout the day.



Any advice anyone can offer would be appreciated.

if you're seeing this as a diet - a short term fix -you're going to have trouble keeping the pounds off for good

Your current calories seem very low to me -and not all that packed with nutrients however I would strongly suggest getting an account at or one ofthe 100s of free food diary sites on the web and record everything that goesin your mouth and see where your proteins/fats and carbs line up...
 
My idea was to eat less calories to start the weight loss process and then work in to more stable eating and exercise.

According to Fitday (this is rough totals) my calories are coming from 20% Fat, 43% Carbs, 37% Protein.

Like I said I dont know anything about dieting, or healthy eating, hence why I came on here. Just want to make sure im not doing anything that could damage my health.

So not sure what nutrients im missing out on but surely im doing better than before going from about 3000/4000 calories a day to about 1000 calories a day and no fruit and veg to 5 portions a day.
 
1000 calories a day for your current weight is low...

There's a lot of really good information in the stickied threads aroudn te forum... especially on topic -nutrition and exercise.. reading them would be in your best interest and then ask questions on what you don't understand...

The nutrtion threads will be especially beneficial - healthy eating isn't as complicated as most people would l ike it to be...
