I've been searching the web for a few weeks now, trying to find a helpful, active, supportive, informative, forum. Hopefully I'm in the right spot.
A quick bio --- My name is Jessica, I'm 24 years old (will be 25 this year & not handling that well), from Royal Oak, Michigan. I'm a busy Hairstylist who just cut down my work schedule from 7 days a week to 6, as of today. Yes!! Needless to say, I don't have as much time to dedicate to fitness and weight loss as I did when I was only working 3-4 days a week, but I am ready to make it more of a priority.
I started getting serious about about my weight loss/fitness journey around 2004. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. My highest recorded weight was 294 lbs. I have slowly but surely worked my way down to around 215 (214.8 as of this morning), and have been holding steady for nearly a year. Well, that's not actually true - because I have yo-yoed a lot in the last year. 203 was the lowest number I've ever seen on the scale, and that was this summer, when I felt good and spent a lot of time in a bikini. I also ate myself up to 222 after a breakup this fall.
I have tried all sorts of fitness routines, but have been slacking lately out of boredom. The only program I'm following right now is C25K, which is an every-other-day running routine that is meant to train Couch Potatoes for 5k's. I'm enjoying it, because I've always wanted to be a runner. If I enjoy something, I'll stick to it. I'm in the middle of week 5, and it's a 9 week program... I think. My goal is to add in more cardio and return to a challenging strength training routine. Nothing feels better to me than being strong and toned. But, I must feel challenged or I won't stick to it. As of right now, I only have access to free weights... so, if anyone can reccomend a total body, challenging, free weight, toning routine, that would be MUCH appreciated. Or even any tips on what muscle groups I should work on what days, etc.
As far as my diet goes... blah. I'm find it very difficult to adopt a healthy eating lifestyle. I've been using food for emotional comfort since I was very young. Eating healthy seems so unnatural to me that it's actually uncomfortable. That's the one thing that I really want to conquer in my life... so I'm hoping to find lots of help here.
My weight goal is 200 lbs right now, then we'll go from there.
I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now, because even though I've already lost a lot of weight... I feel like I've never actually committed to a healthy lifestyle, and that's what I'm here to do.
That's all for now, I guess. Shall I start a diary on another board? Is that generally the first recommendation?
