Lise's 50 pound weight loss diary

The last time I weighed 130 pounds was on my wedding day in 1980 (I was 18), and I've been dieting ever since. Believe me, I was slim then. But a friend of mine (on my honeymoon) who after hearing I weighed 130 said "oh that's too much" and from then on I have never felt slim no matter what my weight. My husband (at the time) always felt I was overweight too. He wanted me to be 17 (and size 6) forever. But even at 140 I am quite slim, and I should have had more confidence in myself.

I have a new (and wonderful) husband now (10 years and counting) and he loves me no matter what I weigh and he always tells me I'm beautiful. So I'm not doing this for his attention or his acceptance. I'm doing this for me.... because it makes me feel more energetic and more confident and happier. I want to be his trophy wife again, but not the one he got for 3rd place. HA

So, my goal is to get back to 130 pounds, but fit and healthy! I will not crash diet it off. I will eat sensibly and exercise every day.

I started on November 11 and so far have lost 5 pounds. I really am starting to feel better. I imagine it will take 4 or 5 months for me to take it off so I will start with my before photo and add the others as I progress.

November 20:
Doing well today. Did some crunches on my ab cruncher, munched on cauliflower and cabbage for a snack. Yum, I love the crunch in these 2 vegetables. Is it possible to eat too much of them? Anyways I had about a cup of each (raw). The rest is right on track, and I've even cut way down on the sugar for my oatmeal.... probably a pinch is all I had, and no milk since I have that in my coffee anyway. Every few hours when I think of it, I do some crunches - maybe 5 minutes or more. I will build it up so I can do 20-30 minutes at one sitting.

November 22
Down another pound today. I'm learning to eat smaller "meals" but more often. My jeans are feeling looser each day.... love that feeling!

December 7
I feel great! Down a few more pounds - 173 - woohoo! I fell off the wagon there for a while but I got back on - thank goodness. Cravings seems to be down alot. Now if I can just keep my husband from sabotaging my effots I'd be all set. Actually, he decided to get on the wagon with me so we'll see how that goes!

There's a beautiful me in here somewhere

Allow me tobe the first to officially post in your Diary (unless someone else posts and hits send before me...

I was right with my earlier comments - You are very attractive, you'll be a knockout when you get where you are going. Note I said when, not if, cuz you can and will do this if you want to.

So what is your plan overall? Trying to follow with a specific diet? Do you have an exercise plan? Diet tends to be a bad word around here because we've all done them.. we prefer lifestyle change because it's more reflective of what needs to be done to properly work through the journey.

Welcome to your diary...

Good job with posting the pics BTW, they are a good way to get a visual on how far you've come... particularly when you hit a plateau and don't feel like things are moving, cuz its often a matter of body composition rather than scale numbers.

BTW, I'll be back...

Thanks! I finally realized that dieting won't help me. By that I mean following some weird or wacky diet or even starving myself. When I saw my doctor last and she found I had high blood pressure she told me to decrease my food intake by 10%. I thought that was crazy.... But now I know she's right.....

I eat what I normally do, except I eat less of it. You think it's hard at first but it's really not. Counting calories and realizing just how much you're eating really makes a difference. I try to keep it around 1000-1500 calories a day depending on how active I am that day.

When I feel hungry I take a drink of water and go and do some crunches on my ab mchine... even for just 5 minutes. It's working. Losing another 10 pounds before the holidays would make me really happy!

Shovelling snow is good exercise right?

WOW - you should see the snow we got overnight! Another 25 cm coming today and tonight!! That's what you get for living in the snow belt!

Don't worry.... I won't overdo it.... it's coming down about as fast as I can move it anyway so I might wait until it's all down except for a small path to the road..... still haven't reached it yet. There are roofs caving in as you read this!

Florida is looking real good!!

Yay! It looks like that at my house too! Good luck shovelling, you'll have buff arms after! And please please drive safely, it's crazy out there!

I can't even get out of my driveway let alone on the road. All the roads and highways around here are closed!

My neighbor friend with a Kuboda snow blower is clearing a path for me right now but the snow is so thick it's clogging up the blower. I hope you're all warm and cozy in your house!!

It's really amazing how much snow can fall in less than 24 hours.

I'm a ding dong

WOW - I really didn't think I'd fall off the wagon but I did!

I had the most enormous cravings the other day. I did fine up until about 7pm..... when I ate a sandwich (ham and swiss sandwich dipped in egg). And then a chocolate bar. Last night I had some popcorn and more chocolate. I can't believe I did that.

Thankfully this morning my weight did not change.... but I'm sure I set myself back a few days. I really didn't think I would fall..... a few days ago you could have placed a wagonload of burgers in front of me and I wouldn't have touched a single one.

Oh well.... I think I'm back on track now. I feel like such a ding dong.

Lise, we all fall off the wagon Hon, hell, I've taken some absolutely beautiful swan dives right off the damn thing...

And come back with no gain...

Then of course there are the days when you go all week long exercising your ass off, eating healthy and the scale just doesn't care... it just sits there mocking you:cuss:

It will all be fine as long as you don't repeat too often...

December 7 - my progress

I feel great! Down a few more pounds - 173 - woohoo! I fell off the wagon there for a while but I got back on - thank goodness. Cravings seems to be down alot. Now if I can just keep my husband from sabotaging my efforts I'd be all set. Actually, he decided to get on the wagon with me so we'll see how that goes!

I decided to get a little help.... don't worry, it's not a crazy diet pill or drug or stimulant of any kind. It just helps me feel full and takes the hunger away when I need it. I take it with my dinner only and it makes me feel full before I overeat! My husband never gets excited about stuff like this but it's helping him too. Has anyone heard of O3World? I can send you the link if you want it.

By the way, another big blizzard today - I can hardly see my neighbor's house!

December 9 - down again!

Another pound - down to 172 - this is awesome. I feel great and I feel I will stay on the wagon this time.

It sure does! Thanks.

Even when the scale doesn't show it, I feel the difference. Especially at this time of year when it's the hardest not to gain weight, it's geat to be back on track.

Down another pound today - 171.

I fully expect to hold still for a while.... the weight has been coming off a little too fast but I am eating throughout the day. For instance I usually have a bowl of oatmeal with a tsp of brown sugar and milk for breakfast, and sometimes a toast as well. This morning I had the oatmeal and 2 slices of french toast with maple syrup. And 2 cups of coffee with milk.

I might have a light lunch, cheese and vegies or a meal replacement shake (100 calories not including the 1/2 banana which I love) if I'm in a hurry.

For supper I am very concious of my portions..... I eat very reasonably and no diet food. I have been eating "normal" food (meaning what I usually would eat) just less of it. I am taking a "filler" if you will, that helps me feel full so I can eat less at dinner and still feel satisfied, about 30 minutes before I eat supper. No drugs or metablic boosters or anything like that....it's just made of gelatin and glycerine. But whatever works right?

I think the key is that I don't eat anything AFTER dinner. I sometimes feel a little hungry in which case I will eat a slice of cheese.... swiss is my favorite snack.

I try to exercise as much as I can, and so far that is a few times a week at the club and a few days a week here on my ab cruncher. It's nice to finally get some use out of it.... I've only had it for about 5 years!

I just can't wait to get to 150! 130 is my goal but I might like 150.... we'll have to wait and see.

Woohoo - 170!

That's my first 10 pounds off. I can't wait for the next 10 pounds to come off!!

Nice Job Lise! Ten Lbs. is a helluva push in the right direction.

You'll be smokin' in no time... more smokin' that is... You already got my vote!

Another 2 pounds down the drain

Wow - I'm really doing this! I've lost another 2 pounds and I'm thrilled. That was through the holidays when I was surrounded by food and snacks and cookies and pie! I even ate some of those but did not gain back a single pound and now I'm back on track and losing again.

15 pounds down!

I'm at a plateau and have been here for a while... I've lost 15 pounds so far and the good news is that it's staying off. I want to lose more of course.... but I seem to be at a stand still. I'll stick to it, it's bound to change soon.

I still watch what I eat, especially in the evenings.... and smaller portions for supper. I feel great! Hope to get a progress photo real soon!
