lifting while out of town

I'm going to the States for a month in mid-November and I'm going to take the first week off from lifting. The other three weeks I want to continue. Any ideas on how I can find a gym with free weights/squat rack etc to work out at for 3 weeks? Are there gyms that let you pay on a per visit basis? About how much usually? I'm going to be in a small town in Florida (Okeechobee) and in Chicago.

Phil, I travel 20 - 25 weeks out of the year. When I am out of town, I ask the hotel clerk where I am staying if there are any gyms nearby and if the hotel offers free passes to those gyms. I would say that at least 50% of the hotels have an agreement with a local gym. Generally, the more upscale the hotel and the more you pay, the better the chances. If not, almost all the major gyms have one-day passes available for typically $15 USD. I don't ever recall seeing a squat rack in a hotel fitness center and rarely see free weights.

Phil, I traveled pretty extensively for my last few jobs. As g8r80 says, make the hotel front desk your 'source of information', from where to workout, where to eat, how to get a cab, all that stuff. They are very willing to help.

Most US gyms definitely have a 'per day' fee for working out that generally ranges from $10 and up.
