Lets talk about pee...

I've heard the best way to tell if we are drinking enough water to stay hydrated is to look at the color of your urine.

I usually drink 2 to 3 liters of water a day, and on the days when I forget to take my multi-vitamin my pee is always almost clear. But on the days when I DO take it, it's yellow. Does this mean I'm getting enough water or not??? Or is there something in vitamins that causes this? I have wondered if my pee is that yellow when taking a multi-vitamin does that mean my body is getting too much of something and is getting rid of it? Maybe I don't need the multi-vitamin, or maybe need a different kind?

And if I'm peeing every hour (or less sometimes) does that mean I'm drinking too much water? Some days it feels like that's all I do - run to the bathroom! How often is too often?

I've been told that your body gets used to all that water and you won't go so often, but come on! I've been drinking this much water for over 6 months now - when do I get to the point where my body has 'gotten used to it'???

It's common for a multivitamin to change your urine color. Don't worry about that.

Bright yellow
Urine that looks nearly neon-colored may seem somewhat alarming, but the cause is most likely nothing more sinister than your daily multivitamin pill. “The B vitamins and carotene in particular give the urine a deeper, more golden color,” says Dr. Deborah J. Lightner, associate professor of urology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. And don’t worry: That brightly colored urine means you’re simply pissing away all of your expensive supplements. The urine color can be affected as the vitamins filter through your system—even as they are being absorbed and utilized.

Vitamin B2 causes the yellow pee. Your pee is yellow because it's the color of the vitamin. It means that you're body took what it needed/absorbed it and the remainder (who knows how much!) wasn't needed. It gets eliminated through your pee.
