Let's get this started

Hello boys and girls.

I am a recent graduate of university and I think it's high time to make a commitment to getting into shape. I played sports all my life up until near the end of high school. Bad eating habits developed over the years were combated with the pure amount of activity I was doing with all my sports. However, needless to say, when the sports stopped and the habits didn't, my weight ballooned. I started out at 220 in grade 11. Being a tall guy that was fine, I'm 6'4. However, each year beyond point, I basically gained an additional 50 lbs up until I reached about 350. My max weight I reached was 370 as of September of 2011. I've tried to go to the gym in the past, but I just lose the motivation and end up not going again. In September I started to again, and watched what I ate, and got down to about 340 by early December. However my motivation was off and on again throughout october and november hence the slow weight loss. I dipped back up to about 355 over the christmas holidays, which in all honestly I don't mind because it was full of drinking and eating. However, it's a new year, and I think it's high time I really get this train moving.

I have read the Abs Diet and will be trying to follow their eating and exercise plan as much as I can. I was on it for a lil bit recently and it seemed to work, I just got lazy and unmotivated again so I stopped. I'm hoping being here, and chronicling my journey will help keep me to my goals and once again reach that healthy state where I can enjoy the things I want to and not be held back by my weight. So here goes nothing. I'll be adding pictures over the next couple days of my starting state so that I can use those as motivators as well. My goal weight is to be 220 lbs. I don't really have a time goal set, but I imagine I'll be content the quicker I reach it. I am tall, with a big frame, so I figure 220 isn't a bad goal to be at.

I am also thinking about keeping a blog on my thoughts of the whole process and how things are going so I can keep my forum thread a little less clustered and my own information a little more organized.

You sound very determined, but as many have come to realize with weight loss, it's all about keeping up with it. It's such a gradual process and requires a lifetime commitment if you're at all serious about keeping it off.

Motivation can be very tough to hold. However, you've taken the first step to making sure you stay motivated by joining this forum. There's a ton of support here and we're more than happy to keep people on track! I'd recommend looking at some other posts in this section of the forum to see the great transformations many have made - it's so inspirational and has helped me so much with my own weight loss.

Great idea keeping a journal, blog, and pictures. Pictures are rather key as, even though they may not be very flattering now, they're golden tickets in the future for keeping your eye on the goals you set for yourself. Take them, keep them, and look back on them as you go along. There's not many things more motivating than seeing your own successful changes in yourself.

I was about the same weight as you when you were at your max (I was 377), just I'm not as tall (I'm 5' 9''), so it was quite bad. You've already lost 15lb though! That's great!

Take it a day at a time and be sure to keep us posted. Good luck to you!

Thank ya Frogger. I read your thread before even posting and it did give me some motivation to start my own thread and keep track of all this. Thanks for you support mate, means a lot.

Hi Shwarmer,

Congrats for deciding to change your lifestyle, you seem very determined and I'm sure you'll reach your goal. Keeping track of your progress is a great way to make sure you don't fall off the wagon and back into your old eating habits. As Frogged said, pictures really do aid with motivation because they help you better visualize your progress, thus making it harder for you to give up. Charting your weight loss is also great, maybe you could keep your chart somewhere in sight (on your fridge perhaps) as a reminder of all the hard work you've done so far.

good luck and keep us updated!

Sooooo like normal, I have big plans at the start and right away I falter. I think I found myself blaming it on my sleeping schedule and what not and then to saying I'll 'start on Monday'. That didn't go well lol. So two weeks have passed since that initial date. I have curved what I eat a little bit but on the whole haven't done a lot to change things up. However I'm going to try and kick start this thing :p My plan is to keep a daily food journal starting tomorrow as well as follow my exercise plan. I've already come up with one based off of the Abs Diet. So here's hoping I stick to it ;) I'll try and remember to post tomorrow and come here every day if not to post then to keep the habit. I'll prob only use this thread tho for monthly updates I'm guessing. We'll see I'll read more into what others are doing as I do see there's a journal section of the forum so my day-to-day activities prob are a better fit there. Anyways picture timeeeeeee

I've taken some pictures and shall be attaching them to this post as well as to the starting post so I have a before to look at and compare.
