Leg sore

So i went to the gym and did about 40 mins or so just on the treadmill. Currently my right leg is extremely stiff and store, especially when I say sit down and bring my foot back which pulls on the thigh, not sure if I should attempt to go back to the gym tonight or what.

It's a tough call. It's normal to be sore when you impose an unusual stress on the body like that. Depending on how sore you are, sometimes active recovery such as light jogging actually alleviates the soreness.

On the other hand, pushing things back one day isn't going to kill you either.

It's really up to you.

yeah its just pretty cramped feeling, its mainly cause I worked today and I work on computers so I sit down most of the day..arg...just gonna take it easy tonight and head back tomorrow. the stiffness and pain goes from about the top of my thigh down to me knee. Almost feels like I got a tetnis (sp?) shot.

It's most likely delayed onset muscle soreness. If you're really interested in the technical aspects of it, feel free too read through this article written by Matthew Perryman:

Wait I must have missed something, if 'breaking/tearing' muscles and 'rebuilding them' with protein aren't what get your muscles big, what does?

Though I'm sure this body building jargon is common knowledge among professionals, but I just didn't get it :-|

E: Ah sorry, it was in plain English wasn't it, the DOMS and muscle growth have no/little correlation, not the workout itself and the muscles, just the DOMs indication or whatever.

I could be wrong, but from reading this and one of your other posts, I would hazard a guess and say that you could have quite possibly over trained. You spent 40 minutes on the treadmill with some time in between on an elliptical ( it sounds like) and then another hour on some machines (un-specified). I'm no expert but 2 hours of training on your first day, some of which was probably intense, really worked you muscles and they probably need a day of rest.

Absolutely fascinating article. I've got a couple friends who are constantly bragging about their DOMS. Might point them towards this :D

So many things are over-simplified.

Yea, Matt puts out some good stuff.

And I think 99/100 people in the gym believe DOMS to be the primary prerequisite for efficacy.
