Leg Press Question

I have a friend who can max out the leg press machine (400 pounds). He is by no means a muscular or big guy and just started working out recently. I can do about as much weight, maybe a bit less, on all other exercises, but on the leg press I max out around 200 pounds. I have worked with a personal trainer in the past and he has shown me the correct way to work with this machine. I have watched my friend and he seems to be doing everything correctly, yet he can max out the machine. I don't have any problems with him doing this and I don't work out to compete with my gym partners, yet he continually rubs it in my face that he can do twice the amount of weight as I can and it just is starting to get annoying. Is there anyway that he is doing the machine wrong, or does he just have unnatural strength in his legs?

Who cares how much he can lift?

If your goal is hypertrophy than there is no reason to max out anyway.

Its very easy to cheat on a leg press machine. Are his legs shorter than ur by any chance.
I found that having short legs makes the leg press very easy. But Its not going to do him any good.

Dont do leg press anyway, do squats.

He may just have a better mechanical advantage on that machine than you because his bones are just the right length, his tendons are inserted and attached at just the right place, he has genetically better glutes or quads, he has better nueral activation for that particular movement, etc. Almost everyone has one or more movements that they can do much better than all the others, that may just be his one and you may be able to outdo him in some others (not that it really matters).
