left arm est "kaput"

For 15 yrs I worked for a vet, and my left arm seemed to get a raw deal (and i'm a lefty). Its been partially dislocated (120lbs rottweiller) bitten, pulled ligament and finally carpal tunnel syndrome in the wrist.
During my weight training I've noticed a steady decrease in the left arms performance. Its at the point now where i can barely handle pulldowns or rows and you can pretty much cancel cristmas on any benchpress or flyes. Pushups are on a day by day basis. I've been to army doc's and they say if it hurts then don't do that. Now its really buggin my last refuge (bike and or spinning). Any suggestions from the pro's for other exercises, or supplements?

Glucosamine already on board for knees..bicep curls and tricep kick backs still good.

isolate the left arm ... work with heavier weights than you do with your right ... just push it a bit harder ... if it doesn't cause you pain.

It sounds like your rotator cuffs are a little beat up and need to be worked on... The rotator cuffs are annoying little buggers because well... they're small....lol and they're surrounded by big muscles that take over for them.... Your rotator cuffs are the muscles that help hold your shoulder together...

To exercise those muscles you cannot use any weights over 5 pounds or your deltoids will take over.... so what you have to do is use small dumb-bells or something even better like theraband.... Then you will have to do PNF patterns, internal/external rotation, etc...

Do the exercises you can that require both arms as long as there is no pain... You don't want to get into the habit of just working your right arm because then you will have a muscle imbalance...

After you get done working out.. make sure you ICE!!!! for about 20 mins... you'll go through 4 phases; Cold - Burn - Achy - Numb...

If you want more help w/ this I'll be more than happy to help...

A good set of exercises to strengthen your rotators are Y, T, I,'s.
You need a light set of dumbells an d a bench.
Lying prone on the bench with the dumbells in each hand, slowly raise your arms up into a 'Y' position parallel to the bench. Hold for 2 seconds and slowly lower. Repeat 10 times.
It's the same now with the 'T' and 'I'.
When you raise the dumbels into a T position make sure the height does not exceed the bench, hold, repeat x 10.
As you grasp the dumbells now to do the I position, bring your arms up behind you so they are by your sides, hold, repeat x 10.
Repeat the whole routine again and finish of with a few stretches.

hi there!
there can be several ways of approaching your situation the first step is to understand the "whole picture" regarding the "health" of your left side of your upper body.
due to you past injuries, there may not have been appropriate healing time and due to your type of work there might have been subtle reptitive abuse because of the demand to be quite physical. This requires you to use both arms and various awkward physical postions because of the animals actions and reactions to the vet's treatments. although you make the time to exercise, the exercises you select may or may not be right for your pesent physical condition. the combinatin of exercises could be an added factor to your problem.
it is suggested to consult with a sports medical professional (this includes physical therapist, chiropractor, etc.) or you can ask physical conditionng instructors in the neigborhood who they might recommend you to visit, providing they understand your situation.
The one thing, well maybe more than one is that the function of your left arm as well as the rest of the body works as a system. what affects one part affects the whole. by you understanding what's going on inside your body will help you create a healthier safer environement at work, when you exercise and just living life.
sorry, i am not suggesting any exercise information because i feel this would not be right for now not knowing the "whole picture" myself. good luck and good health to you!
dat's it for now!

Thanks guys.....Ive gotten more response from ya'll than I've gotten from the army doc's. (im not in my husband is). All they want to do is shoot steroids into my arm (hell no I'll cut it off first):( .Since the injured soliders come through here first all of the specialists are off limits accept in a emergency. The german doc's, are supposedly more holistic in their approches to medicine, so one of my bud's tryin to get me an appointment, but its going to be expensive and in euro's. Meanwhile I've abandoned the nautilus machines for exercises and gone back to free weight as well as some of the other exercises. (allcdboy, dex, jpfit ) Even though I'm a lefty my right is stronger and has been compensating. Happened to my spin teacher as well after getting HBC. He's trying to convert me to a "roadie":p

PS thanx crazy and Q

PPS not too many people out here too talk about this stuff, not to many americans into sports. (wives anyway:mad: )
