Hi WLF. I've been here before. I was highly successful with the aid of one of these journals, so I'm trying it again. For those of you who don't know me, which is probably most of you since it's been a while since my last weight loss experience, I'm Kristi. I'm almost 20 years old, and I will be a sophomore in college very shortly. August 15th is move-in day. I'm not going to go too into detail here, however, because I've answered the questions from the sticky.
Other than that, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
What is your current height and weight?
5'4" & about 150
If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
125
At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
125ish
Why do you want to lose weight?
Well, for many reasons. 1) My Future. Diabetes runs in the family (mom, aunt, grandma), and I don't want to be it's next victim. 2) Soccer. I need to be in good shape and at a reasonable weight to be able to compete for a spot on the team. 3) Confidence. I'm not confident at all with my body. I've lost around 20 pounds in the past, and it truly did wonders for me confidence level.
Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
No, not really. Unless you consider college a specific event.
What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Soooo many. Having been through a year of college already, I know that this is going to be a huge challenge. My biggest downfalls? The cafeteria, drunk snacking, and using soccer as an excuse to eat whatever I want. he cafeteria absolutely killed me last year. Pizza, pasta, tacos, fries, chicken tenders. I need to learn to zero in on the healthy stuff and not even look over at the pizza station. Drunk snacking was also a big problem, but mostly in the post season because we can drink whenever we want. During season we have maybe one day a week that we are allowed to go out. Using soccer as an excuse is just something that I need to learn not to do. I know I can. I've done it before. I'm dragging one of my best friends along for the "diet" ride, so hopefully we can keep each other in check.
Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Simple. Unhealthy eating habits all around + Little to no exercise = weight problem.
What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Exercise. Getting some form of exercise in at least 3-5 days a week is something I need to accept as a necessity. Portion Control. Really, I should never need to eat as much in one sitting as I do. I can eat more than all of my friends, and I know it's because I started out with normal portions and just kept making them bigger and bigger. That needs to stop. Unnecessary snacking. Sitting in front of the television with a bag of chips kills me. I'm keeping the snack list very small and decently healthy for when I go back.
Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
Yes, I lost about 20 pounds during my junior year of high school. I've already talked about some of what helped me, but the big things were exercising practically every day, eating only one serving of everything, eating 3 meals and 2 snacks daily, drinking tons of water/green tea, taking taking drinks in between every bite, eating slowly, only snacking when I had it planned out, counting calories, and minimum alcohol consumption, although I didn't have to put much effort into it at that point in my life.
Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
I gradually started falling away from the healthy habits I picked up. Summer vacation temporarily stopped the routine I had developed, and then I just couldn't ever get entirely back into it after that. I was able to stay at a reasonable weight until I got to college though. College was just detrimental to my weight loss.
What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Counting calories, not having unhealthy food in the house, portioning food that come in boxes or bags as soon as a bought them. For example, I would take the bag out of a box of cheezits, put 15 of them in separate snack bags until they were gone, and then put those bags back in the box. This website/journal helped a lot, too.
Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
Yes.
Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
I haven't cooked much in the past, but I've tried to a little this summer. Pasta Dishes and chicken fajitas mostly.
How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
At home I work at the macaroni grill, which makes things extremely difficult, but we don't go out very often. At school I don't have a car, so I don't eat out too often, but if I do it's usually Chipotle, Applebee's, or Bob Evan's.
What are your three favorite foods?
I guess I should probably have this figured out by now, but I always struggle with favorite food questions. I really love macaroni and cheese, nachos, aaaand cheesy garlic bread. Those are my unhealthy foods. For healthy foods I love that cucumber and onion vinegar dish, grilled chicken, and peppers of all sorts.
What are your three favorite restaurants?
Chipotle, Applebee's, and Olive Garden. Those are very subject to change though.
What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Eat less of it, snack less on it, and eat waaay more healthier kinds of it.
If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
My stomach. Most of my weight has gone to my stomach. Less cellulite. My face would also have slimmed out a lot.
Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Uhhh, sometimes, but this isn't one of my bigger issues.
Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
YES!
Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
Not at all.
Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
No.
Do you eat as a reward?
No.
Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
While watching TV. Sometimes at the computer, but again, this isn't a big issue with me. I'm always pretty aware of how much food I'm consuming.
What do you normally eat for a meal?
Lately, it has been a lot of macaroni grill food. Some kind of pasta with unhealthy sauce, and lots of cheese, chicken, and some veggies in it.
What type of snacks do you eat?
Chips, leftovers, anything that is around that doesn't need to be cooked or prepared in order to eat.
In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Barely anything. I'd say I average about 1 run a week for the summer. That is terrible, especially since I'm a college athlete.
Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
At home I run around my neighborhood or at my middle school track. At school I exercise on the soccer field.
What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Soccer & swimming...everything else sucks.
What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Hmm...haven't given this much thought. I'm not sure. This journal keeps me motivated. Uh...seeing physical results keeps me motivated. Compliments keep me motivated.
Do you have rewards for certain goals?
Not at this time.
PHEW! That took a while.
Other than that, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
