Knuckle and Wrist Pain

Yesterday I got into a fight with my brother and I actually hurt myself more than he hurt me. I think it was because I punched incorrectly, but my left thumb is sprained I believe and my right wrist is really hurting. What should I do?

You should stop hitting your brother. No serriously I think you should just give it some rest. It should heal. If you want you could start doing grip strengh training for your forearms and hitting a heavy bag. This should help prevent future injuries. You want to make sure that you are punching with your wrist strait and only using the first two knuckles. Youtube has some good videos on this stuff. Ive hurt my wrist plenty of times and its always healed so far. Just stick to fighting with your feet for now.

ICE...and buy a punching bag and use gloves. People who fight mma don't wear gloves for the sake of the person they're punching it's to protect their own hands.

After a few weeks it seems that my injuries have healed for the most part.

My wrists aren't in serious pain anymore, but they do crack a lot; they cracked before and I still don't know why.

My thumbs aren't in pain, but they are easily injured for reasons I am also unsure of. (I think my right thumb is permanently injured from improper healing and constant injuries to it).

My knuckle is actually still hurting though; I can feel the pain when I rub it or make a tight fist. I almost never go to the doctor because I think I will heal on my own, but that has caused me some trouble. I thought my knuckle would heal too, but it still hurts after these weeks so I'm thinking it could be bad. I read that it could be a deep bruise, hair line something, or a piece of bone broke off. It didn't feel like anything broke, but I'm no expert. What do you guys think?

*edit* I didn't mention my knuckle in the original post because I thought it was just some skin damage, but I guess it is more serious.

I had a pretty serious injury from punching. My right thumb was swollen so much I couldn't bend it at the knucke or near the wrist. I thought sure it was broken but it was just a soft tissue injury. I got my nose broken at the same time and my hand felt far worse. I would just give it time. If it was broken they'd have to re-break it to set it, usually it's just a hairline fracture anyway. I'd still try to put ice on it for swelling and do some range of motion movements to make sure it stays somewhat flexible while it heals.

Another guy I work with broke his hand 3 times hitting people and needed surgery twice (screws etc) to fix it. If it's still bad after another week or so I'd go see a doctor to make sure.

If your right thumb is "permanently" injured then you should get to a doctor. It's possible that you had an actual break they might still be able to "permanently" fix that.
