Knee pain

Hi, I've been looking at various threads in this forum for some time now and picked up quite a bit of useful information. Since this place seems to be the best when it comes to weight/cardio training, I'm hoping that I can get some light shed on a particular injury that I'm facing.

Basically, I started having a tightness in my knee about a week and a half ago. At first I didn't think much of it, since I just assumed that it was my muscles being tired or something. After it persisted for several days and I realized that I couldn't bend my knee properly(i.e. cannot bend my knee and place my foot over my other leg without feeling it become tight and somewhat painful), I decided to figure out every symptom that I have right now and figure out what's up.

The following is what I can tell given a self check-up of sorts-

-knee hurts slightly when bending, cannot bend completely without the pain becoming excessive enough for me to stop.

-light swelling on the left side of the knee joint(the part of your knee that goes in). It's not obvious to the eye though, and I know it's swelling only through touch.

-muscle tension/tightness and slight pain to the left of the knee, slightly below the knee, and above the knee, going into the thighs. Also slight, sharp(?) pain behind the knee.

-It's apparent only when i'm sitting or walking. Generally it's a tight feeling around the knees with a small, dull sort of pain. It doesn't get worse when I go up or down on stairs. I can run or squat just fine without any increase in pain.

Recently though, like today, the pain isn't a tightness but rather sharp, poking(again small) pains in my knee. Also feeling some tingling in and around my lower leg.

I "had" a couple possible injuries in mind, but this recent development more or less threw them all out of the window.

So, can anyone help me out by figuring out what's wrong? I don't think it's bad enough to warrant a visit to a doctor, but it's annoying and i'm not sure whether I should continue working out or not. I've stopped 3-4 days after the pain started and haven't done much for the past 3 days.

Thanks for your help!

Hi there

Are you sure you haven't injured yourself? I think a visit to the doctor's would be good, considering it has gotten worse

Hi, thanks for the reply!

The pain is more or less gone now. The tightness isn't there anymore, I can bend my knees completely, and the only "pain" that I feel is a slight discomfort in my knee itself. I'm not sure if it's remnants of a minor injury soon to go away or simply me thinking too deeply into it.

I'm planning on giving it another week to rest, and then i'll see what happens next week. If the pain persists, then i'll probably go see a doctor.

As for the pain, I know this may sounds a little bit weird at first but, I would suggest it's stress related, you're expecting you knee to hurt so it does. Try to not test out the pain and walk as it feels comfortable. Believe that you are completely healed and you will be.
