hey everyone,

I actually need help with something first before i can start my weight loss.

I am just under 120kg (260 pounds?) i am 20 years old and a little taller then 171cm (5 foot 7?), i am aiming to gradually lose upwards of 20-30kg.

The only thing is that im not very knowledgable in the area of weight loss (as you can see by my weight).

I have been told by a few people close to me that i need to eat less junk food and excercise much more. And ive also asked around on different weight forums and have been suggested to eat around 2000-2700 calories a day and to excercise and basically burn more then i consume. Now as i said i dont have much knowledge of this type of stuff and desperately need and want help from people who have either done this or know what they are talking about, this is where YOU come in.

I will give you an idea of what i eat daily:

Breakfast: I rarely eat breakfast, i know thats very bad...im planning on eating breakfast every day now.

Lunch: i normally eat pretty un-healthy stuff...basiclaly hot food like chips (french fries over there) or burgers and pies. Just really un-healthy stuff like that.

Dinner: my mother cooks dinner every night...and its your usual home cooked meal like for example : roast chicken, potato and vegetables. Obviously its different every night, sometimes its steaks, lamb...anything like that.

For snacks and in-betweens its junk food like potato chips, biscuits and candy.

I usually drink cola and similar....

Now i know thats very bad and thats why i have come here for help.

Could someone please give me a rough idea or make a table of what i should eat daily? and please keep in mind to make the table based on the amount of calories you think i should be taking in. Any other help or advise would be great too.

Now onto excercise..i dont mind phsyical activity...as i played alot of sports at school and dont mind have a small run around.

I have these things at my disposable:

Weights
boxing bag/focus mitts
pool

Plus i dont mind running etc.

Based on my aim and diet how long do YOU think i should be excercising for daily to start losing some weight?

I have heard this forum is great for this sort of thing so i really hope SOMEONE can help.

Thank you,

Kingy

Welcome to the forum Kingy :D YOu will find many here who can help :D

May I suggest a few things? First, log on to Fitday.com or sites like it that will help you track your calories and give you caloric goals. Second, cut soda out or down to one diet soda/ day - that is a boat load of sodium and calories in a can. You should be drinking a LOT of water - atleast 2 liters a day. You can still have your fries, but make them from fresh potatoes and BAKE them - not fry 'em. Replace your junk food snacks with fruits and veggies.

As for exercise, start slowly at first. Doing too much too soon will only cause injury and set you back before you begin. Start with walking, light boxing and weights. The length of time and distance are based on what your body tells you. If you get tired, feel short of breath, etc. STOP and try for more the next day. If you walked to the green mailbox today, try for the telephone pole past that mailbox the next time - keep moving your goal a little at a time.

You are doing this the healthy way, for that alone you should be proud of yourself. YOu will be learning something new every day about yourself and your diet - its a continuous learning experience even for those of us who have been doing it a while :D

If you need anything or just would like to chat, feel free to PM me :D I'd be glad to help with anything I am able to :D

Mom's home cooked dinners sound reasonably healthy - but i got myself into my situation by eating reasonably healthy but out of control portions... Really watch portion sizes...

And BizeB's correct - get yourself an online food journal and start recording what you eat - to help track your calories... you can't cut back unless you know what you are eating to begin with.

Enlist mom's help - tell her you want to start losing weight and ask her if she'll help you - she might want to get the whole family eating better -it can be watching the amount of oils and salt in cooking or the cuts of meat she's buying..

breakfast doesn't have to be anything fancy -it can be some cut up fruit and cottage cheese, a bowl of oatmeal, cold cereal (watch portion control) an apple with peanut butter, etc... there's lots of different things you can grabin a hurry
