Kimmyluna's Weight Loss Diary

Hi, all, with starting this diary, I hope I will find the motivation to keep working out on a regular basis by keeping track of it and by the help of you guys! I'm 5'3" and at the moment, I weigh 191 lbs. I want to get down to at least 140 lbs. So, I know I need to set some mini-goals for each week and I should for each day, too. So,

Mini-goal for this week to this Sunday, Feb. 16th: Work out 5 days this week

Goals for today: Walk to the library and back for a total of 3 miles.
60 jumping jacks
3 sets of 10 front squats
3 sets of 10 side squats
3 sets of 10 plié squats
3 sets of 10 tricep dips
3 sets of 10 mountain climbers
3 sets of 10 mountain climbers with knees to the side
30 pushups on knees
2 sets of 10 bicep curls
30 second plank on forearms (can only do 10 seconds at a time)

Goals Met?: Yes! and I feel so good about it, too! The only thing I'm missing is some sports bras and exercise pants to use, but until I can get some, I'm not going to stop. I've decided enough is enough and I REALLY hope I can stick to a good workout plan! I went to buy some new pants and I had to pick a size 16! I've never had to buy a size 16! I mean, I haven't bought pants in a while and the only pair I had (recently moved, couldn't take all our clothes back with us) was a pair of maternity pants, so other than seeing the pudge, I didn't really know how big I actually got. Ok, will post more tomorrow!

Btw, I was wearing the maternity pants because I recently had a baby. He's about 10 months old now. I weighed 180 lbs at the start of my pregnancy, was up to 220 lbs by the end of the pregnancy and lost the weight after birth and gained some of it back. I actually weighed myself after the first post and it said 187.5 lbs. Must've been water weight when I weighed myself at 191 lbs., but I also think I was wearing too much clothing at that time, too.

Man, I was just so tired today. I feel really bad about it. :( I slept an extra two hours today, while my baby was taking his afternoon nap. I wanted to post, though, on how I want to change my eating habits. Coffee is my biggest weakness at the moment. My goal this week is to limit coffee to two cups a day. Next week, I want to limit it down to one a day. I do eat out of boredom sometimes, but it helps that I don't keep a lot of junk food in the house. When me and my hubby go grocery shopping, we plan out a week's worth of dinners and only get that. He goes to work at 7 in the morning and doesn't usually get home till 7 at night, so that's the only meal we get to have together. Oh, and btw, he's always been slim. I have to go to the boys section just to buy him a pair of pants! He wears a size 16 in boys. Something like a 28 1/2" waist and 5'5". I usually eat a small bowl of cereal with 1% milk for breakfast and for lunch, it's a two pieces of whole wheat toast with about a tablespoon of peanut butter on each piece and whatever is for dinner that night. I think I'm going to incorporate some of the tips I've seen on portion control, like using a smaller plate to make your body think that it ate more.
Didn't exercise today, but since my goal is 5 days this week, will TRY not to lose another day until this Sunday.

Thanx, Quercus for stopping by my diary. It seems to help to know that there is other people looking at my progress.

So, today, I already had my two cups of coffee, even though I SO want another cup right now. I've usually been having at least 4-5 cups a day. Walked to the library and back again this late morning. They actually have storytimes scheduled in the mornings for young babies (0-18 months) at 10:30 am on Fridays and on Tuesdays, a Toddler Storytime at the same time, so I'm definitely going to start taking him up there for those. I'm thinking of taking him in a back carrier for a lot more calorie burning. I've got this heavy duty backpack like baby carrier that a friend gave to me, so it would be like wearing a 20 lb backpack, since he's 20 lbs by himself! Wow, I think if I did that, though, my shoulders would be absolutely aching! But, just thinking about how much calories I could burn just doing that would be amazing!

Also, did 60 jumping jacks, 2 sets of 10 reps each of front squats, side squats and plié squats. Will try to fit in some more exercises a little bit later today.

So far, I've had 2 cups of coffee, about a cup of udon noodles with about half a cup of kimchi, half a can of pear halves in juice and 100 calorie pack of pocky sticks. I'm half Korean, so I love me some Korean food, lol. Actually, my parents just came to visit for a week, so we were able to go to an Asian Supermarket in the next city over to pick up some stuff that I can't buy at the local grocery stores around where I live. I wish I had some wheat bread, so I could make my toast with peanut butter that I usually have. The peanut butter is pretty filling, so I really like eating it. Ok, will write more later today to log what else I eat and more exercises!

I ended up having another cup of coffee. I was just getting so tired. I didn't do anymore exercises today. In addition to everything else already listed, I had a package of ramen with sauteed eggplant and some more kimchi, today. The hubby is supposed to be home really late tonight, so I'll just be making him something to eat for when he gets home.

Looking forward to see how the baby backpacking thing will go taking Tristan to the library tomorrow. Might as well go ahead and say it, easier than saying my baby. I'm a little afraid what he's going to do to my hair though. He grabs and pulls on anything he can get his hands on and he's going to be facing me on my back. Well, I hope my shoulders don't hurt like hell doing it.

I love strawberry pocky! Kimchi too for that matter. With the Udon, kimchi, and package ramen you've had a lot of sodium today. That won't hurt your weight loss, but it might give you a temporary bump up in weight so don't be discouraged if it does.

I'm eating Korean seaweed snacks as I type this. Being vegan means eating lots of Asian food for me. I have a soy milk maker to make tofu with and I have mold culture coming so I can make tempeh (Indonesian fermented soybeans). I miss being in a city where I had access to good asian restuarants and groceries. In my part of East Texas all you can eat Chinese buffet and a Vietnamese Pho restuarant that failed its health inspection are the choices.

Have fun with the baby backpacking. Hopefully you keep all your hair.

The baby backpacking wasn't that bad at all. I'm wondering how it's going to be like when it starts getting up to 80-90 degrees here in Florida in the summer, though. Hopefully, it won't be so terrible. I think the nice thing about using Tristan as weights is that the weight will be getting more and more if I like it or not!

Oh, and Quercus, I actually made sure I didn't add the seasoning packet to the ramen, since the kimchi will give it plenty of taste. I just weighed myself after getting back from the library and it said 185.8! I'm not sure how that happened. It is nice to see that number, though. My goal for this month was to at least lose a pound a week, so I don't overdo myself with not really exercising for quite a while. But, it almost seems like I'm almost at my goal weight! If it does go back up a little bit, that's okay. Weight always seem to fluctuate.
Oh, and I used to be in east Texas, more like southeastern Texas, though. In Livingston. I didn't actually have any problems with him pulling my hair, too. Couldn't keep it in a ponytail in the back like I usually do, but rather tied it to the side, so it would hang over my shoulder.

I work all over the state. Back in my omnivorous days I ate at Florida's Kitchen in Livingston. The best ribs I've ever had. I might make an exception to my vegan ways should I find myself there again.

Good job with the ramen. It's crazy that most of the time it's cheaper to buy the soup and throw out the seasoning than buy plain ramen. I had a Korean friend in college that got his ramen in care packages from Korea. They were super long and so much better than what we have. I learned how to eat noodles with chopsticks from him and that's also the guy that introduced me to kimchi.

Congrats on the weigh in and baby backpacking success!

I started using the food and exercise logs on caloriecount.com. I think that will help a lot to keep track of everything. So, so far today:

consumed 994 calories
minus 590 calories from taking Tristan to the library and back
so, I have 940 calories remaining that I can eat today

I can't seem to get an accurate calorie burn from anywhere to calculate how much I'm burning if I take him in a backpack like baby carrier. The most I can look up is backpacking. It says you can burn up to 600 calories in an hour doing that, but it sure didn't feel like it. I'm also on a level surface pretty much the whole way with just a small incline (for a very short distance) both ways. Been trying to look walking carrying a 20 lb backpack, but nothing precise enough. sigh Maybe it didn't feel like I did because it's been a nice 60 degrees or so outside with the sun shining enough to not make it feel too cold. What do you all think?

This has walking with an infant, but I assume they are calculating a slow pace. You could do the calories for slow walk and baby carrying and find the difference, then use the pace that you walk each time and add the baby carrying amount to it. You could also assume your backpack calculator is the high estimate and the baby carry is the low and average the 2.

Ok, so it seems I'm probably only burning about half the amount of calories originally logged, then. So, I changed my activity log to about 300 calories, then. That's okay, though. I think the backpacking is assuming that you'll be doing a lot of hills and such, since it would be like hiking, but because it's level the whole way, I don't think I can use that. I actually have tried using that particular calorie counter, but I know their would be a calorie difference between carrying a 20 lb infant instead of a 15 lb one. But, what you said gave me a better insight into trying to calculate it out.

So, honestly, I've been pretty lazy today. I think I'm going to write down my day to day schedule to help me schedule out my workouts for the day. I've been thinking about it, but writing it down seems to help to make it more doable.

So, from morning to night, this is how it usually looks:

6:20am: wake up, get a cup of coffee started for the hubby
6:30am: get him up, stay up with him till 7am
7am: lay back down for one more hour before having to wake baby up
8am: wake baby up, get myself a cup of coffee
8am-9:15am: feed and play with baby, check e-mail and such
9:15am: start getting me and baby ready to go to the library
10-10:30am: walk to the library
(depending on the day) 10:30-11am: storytime at the library or if no storytime, look around the library
anywhere from 11-11:30am: walk back home
12pm: feed baby, lay him down for his two hour nap
12pm-2pm: fit in more exercise, lunch, computer time
2pm: wake baby up, his lunch, misc. stuff
4pm: lay baby down for final nap for one hour
4-5pm: fit in some more exercise, more computer time
after that is pretty random. you know, more baby time (feeding and playing), play on the computer some more. Start making dinner probably around 7pm, since I never really know when the hubby will be home. I try not to go to bed any later than midnight to make sure I get enough sleep for the next day.

Since I cut into Tristan's midmorning nap by going to the library instead, he's ended up taking one more half hour nap late evening to make up for it. Even though he's fallen asleep in the stroller or backpack carrier on the way back home. 10 months old babies are supposed to get 14 hrs of sleep total for the day. Have to keep him on a pretty strict schedule to make sure he sleeps through the night.

I forgot to mention that from 9-10pm we get Tristan ready for bed by doing a bath, pajamas and bottle. Will go to bed anywhere from 9:30-10pm.

Weighed myself this morning. Was 186.4. Had a feeling it would fluctuate though. I know I had a bad dinner last night. It was fish fry with tartar sauce and two hashbrown patties. Also had 3 reese's peanut butter cup miniatures. Never said it was going to be easy.

I have not been good about keeping my calories down. Ugh...

Walked to the library again yesterday morning + a walk to the corner store later that day for a total of 65 min. of walk time. Tried to do a little bit of calisthenics (some jumping jacks and squats), but I've realized that I get all confused over all the different exercises out there that I should be doing that I either need to write them down or just try some exercise videos. So, I started researching some exercise videos that I think will help a lot. I found a bunch on youtube that I want to try out.

I think I might be making Sundays my day off. Mostly because that's the day that my hubby is (usually) off. Even though, he still ended up having to work today. Plus, my roommate is off Friday and Saturday nights, so he's up most of the day on Sundays. I can't exercise in front of somebody else, just makes me feel insecure. Glad I don't mind taking the walks, though. It's been so nice out lately. I want to continue to take Tristan up to the libraries in the morning most days of the week. Summertime will probably earlier than the library opens, though, to try to beat the heat. I don't know...we'll see.

So, this is probably a little lame way of thinking, but I've been thinking that if I exercise more, I can eat more. lol perhaps it will help me stay within my calorie budget.

So far, I've had 2 cups of coffee, about a cup of udon noodles with about half a cup of kimchi, half a can of pear halves in juice and 100 calorie pack of pocky sticks.

First of all, welcome to the forum. It seems like you're on the right track, so that's good. You'll find that there are a lot of really, reeeeeally helpful and supportive people on the forum that are more than willing to be a part of your weight loss journey. It's good that you're already keeping a journal (I saw you posted in mine, so I wanted to stop by and visit your world) - I find it helps - not only does it give you an avenue to communicate with others who can offer input and advice, but I feel it can also help you vent some frustration. And, trust me...you'll have A LOT of frustration when you try to lose weight. A...LOT.

But, on a brighter note...I don't know what the hell Pocky Sticks are, so you're going to have to tell me, HAHAHA

Hiya, Chef, thanx for stopping by! Pocky Sticks are biscuit sticks that are dipped in I guess kind of like a frosting that's usually either chocolate or strawberry. The ones I had was a little weird, though. I got them from an actual Asian Supermarket, so they were green tea chocolate. Here's a website that I found it on. not the grean tea chocolate ones, though.

So, I did pretty well today, calorie wise. Caloriecount.com makes it so much easier to make sure I don't munch on too much stuff. No exercises today, other than playing with Tristan. In a way, that's an exercise by itself. Not for very long, but he likes it when I toss him in the air. Only just a couple of inches from my hands, mind you! I add some squats in there, too on the way back down.

Sorry if this is a bit TMI, but ugh, my inner thighs have been kinda rubbed raw from walking those 3 miles that I've been doing! Just been wearing a pair of pants when I do go out to walk. Wish I had a pair of exercise pants to wear! But, I have been wearing my maternity pants, still that are a little too big on me. Perhaps if I wear the regular pants that I just got recently, it won't be so bad on my thighs.

Not sure if the library will be open tomorrow, it being President's Day. I think I will call them when they open at 10 am. If they aren't open, I might go ahead and still walk up there and back, just because. Not sure yet. But, there is a few exercise videos that I want to try out. I think I'll be DYING by the time I'm done with one of them, though. haha, we'll see.

Oh, and one more thing, I did do better, also, on not drinking too much coffee! Only had two cups like what my original goal was for this week. The trying to keep within my calorie budget today was a tad annoying. Was hungry and tried not to eat too much this afternoon. I knew my dinner was going to be the most calorie-laden, like usual. But, I do like the idea of what I said about if I exercise more, I'm allowed to eat a little bit more! Within my calorie budget, of course.

Didn't try to call the library. I was like, meh, I don't feel like walking up there today, anyway. lol But, I did fit in a 30 workout video and wow, I haven't done a really exercise video in a LONG time and it was definitely tough! First time today to try out a HIIT workout. Very cool, was so out of breath! Fitnessblender.com has some really amazing workouts on there. It varies from beginner to advanced lvled videos. I'm really glad I found it.

So far, I've done really well on my calories. Hubby went grocery shopping yesterday while him and roommate was picking up a queen sized bed that we got from a friend of the roommate's Mom. So, I had two pieces of whole wheat toast with 2 tbsp. of peanut butter for breakfast and a cup of coffee. Lunch, another cup of coffee with a Korean style meal. It was the last of the kimchi I had with rice and seaweed sheets. It was all filling enough, that I don't even feel all that hungry. I think I will be able to make it dinner time!

Toddler Storytime tomorrow morning, so will be going to the library tomorrow. Will fit in some more exercise videos during his afternoon nap.

Gotta go for now, baby's hungry. Might write more later. Hugs

Ok, I am seriously confused...I walked at a I would say, a somewhat brisk pace and timed myself for an hour to see how far I would get mileage wise. So, remembering what intersection I walked to, I put into yahoo maps, google maps and mapquest and they are all saying I walked 5.2 miles in 1 hr! How the hell did I walk 5mph?! I'm saying to myself, there is no freaking way I just walked 5mph...But, there is no mistaking what intersection I walked to. I remember it very well. I want to drive up there from the house and see if I was correct in what I got from the maps. I am in so much disbelief right now, it's not even funny....

So, I've noticed that I started to get addicted with , but it's just an awesome website. You guys have got to try it! Oh, and I was off with my entry before this. There is another road with a very similar name, except one has Belt at the end and the other has Blvd at the end. I had to look it up on Google Maps to check the street view since the road doesn't show up on the map for some weird reason. So, I actually walked 3 miles in an hour. Even so, I'm surprised I could do that.

I've been walking to the library like usual, but I was adding an extra hr into the walk and doing some other exercise videos, but now I've decided I'm going to start dancing in the mornings before my son wakes up and after the hubby goes off to work. I can already feel my tummy getting a little flatter. So happy! It'll take a while to get to my goal weight, but you gotta start somewhere, right? Oh, I'm still planning on walking to the library, but not walking much more than that in one day. It was just getting too boring...can't do a boring exercise.
