Kiddie gyms

Well it's not really something that I would use with my kids. However, we are lucky to have a huge backyard, lots of safe streets and parks etc. where we live.

I am sure there are situations where people may need to substitute a kiddy gym if they are unable to access safe outdoor play areas on a daily basis.

Put it this way, if my kids want to watch tv maybe they should exercise while watching it, I do. That would be healthier than just sitting on the couch doing nothing.

So see, it can be useful.

Yanno, I read some of the replies before I read the article and everyone was making a deal about the woman who said she "forces" her kid to exercise.....but NO ONE ever mentioned (or maybe they did, but I stopped reading the replies) that the woman went on to say that she thought that was wrong and instead let her kid play Wii fitness.

I honestly, found nothing wrong with the article after that. I found the "kid sized machines" wrong. You can educate your child about exercise, you can even let them run on a treadmill, do cardio stuff, but to get them into resistance and weights seems kinda wrong, to me at least. So I'm on the fence about it.

You can still enroll children in sports right? that is still considered exercise right?

next thing you know they are going to have fat loss pill chewable for children....

I guess some people might just not know any better. Kind of like when mothers put their children in front of tv with a Baby Einstein dvd thinking that it will teach them something. It will, but a real life experience is far more enriching. Same as the kiddy gym.

It's better than no exercise at all. But I don't think it would work too well with my kids for long periods.

The Great Outdoors

Kiddie gyms are great for those kids who don't get a chance to go outside often and who need the extra help to stay fit.

But I agree that the great outdoors is the best!

It is a great way to keep the whole family healthy and happy.

There's a difference between routine and a rut. If your child is liking going there, and there is some variation, then it's probably fine. But once he or she starts getting bored with it, but you keep them going, it could have some lasting damage to their social skills, among other things.
