Karma's weight lose

Hi all,
Well I'm a 42 year old man with a very bad back. I've had disc replacement but still suffer a lot of pain from it.

I'm on a quest to lose about 42 pounds and hopefully improve my back by carrying less weight.

I started 5 weeks ago at 14.5 stone (203 pounds) by buying an exercise bike, I didn't know if I'd be able to pedal it with my back problems but keeping the tension very low and starting with 10 minute sessions I've managed to get up to two one hour sessions per day, but still cant put tension on because of back pain.

I'm eating porridge in the morning about 330 calories and a main meal of chicken and rice or chilli and rice most days. I also have one or two oranges and sometimes a cracker bread.

So far I've lost 14 pounds in 5 weeks which I'm very pleased with, I just need to keep it going

14 pounds in 5 weeks is awesome! You should be very proud of yourself. It's not easy working out with back pain. I have back problems as well (not as severe as you seem to have) but I found once I started working out it helped relieve some of that tension.

Weighed myself this morning and I'm down to 13stone 4 pounds, (186 pounds) thats a 17 pound loss. Very pleased with how this is going. keeping on with it will be the harder bit as I've tried 2 or 3 times before and given up half way through. This time I plan to continue with the exercise or at least half of it once my target weight is achieved to help maintain a healthy weight.

thanks,
Weighed myself this morning and I'm half a pound up? well I guess thats what comes of getting on the scales every day, think I might change to weekly weight checks

Weight fluctuates so much from day to day due to various reasons. I personally think weekly weigh ins are better and more motivating.

thanks Bec, thats what I'm gonna do. It's my exercise rest day today, I do 6 days and then allow myself a rest day.

I started weighing myself on Friday mornings. That way, if I blow it over the weekend I've got the rest of the week to refocus and work towards a good weigh-in on Friday.

I used to weigh-in on Monday morning hoping that it would give me an incentive to be good over the week-end. I like the Friday morning deal much better!!!!!

Yesterday was my rest day when I do no exercise to allow my body to recover. I had been looking forward to the rest day but didn't enjoy it at all, after doing so much exercise on the static bike I found myself very restless doing nothing all day and really can't decide if I should have a rest day or not.

Today has felt good so far though, I've done my first one hour on the bike and it felt good and I did feel revitalised.
I've also had my porridge, can't recommend it enough, I feel full for ages on just 50g with 300 ml skimmed milk and its just 330 calories.

I know what you mean about rest days...I was trying to hit the treadmill every day but my right knee was killing me. So, now I'm just hitting the treadmill every other morning and on my off day of cardio I'm hitting the bowflex and totalgym doing resistance training of the entire upper body. This way, lower half is getting it one day (with cardio) and upper half the next. My knees feel great now, so it seems to be working as far as that goes.

Just ordered a logic3 fit step from Amazon which rises the wii fit board by about 3 inches so I can try some stepping exercises, looking forward to that.
Not weighed myself yet this week, I'm waiting until Friday for the big weigh in but I'll be disappointed if I don't lose 3 pound. I suppose I'd settle for 2 :). I've been sticking to my porridge and evening meal and a large orange and thats not been difficult at all. No biscuits or crisps in over 6 weeks now.

It's day 37 since I bought the exercise bike and started making an effort to lose the extra weight I'm carrying.

I've switched from doing a standard one hour on the bike twice a day to doing 24 kilometres (15 miles) twice a day which normally takes about an hour but It means I cover the same distance weather I go fast or slow.

Problem is, I'm getting very board with the bike and really have had enough after 30 minutes or so. I do always finish the time or distance I set out to do but starting to find it very dull sitting on the bike for so long.

I guess if it was easy none of us would have a problem in the first place :)

Ive changed from doing one hour sessions on the bike to doing 30 minutes each time, 12 kilometres actually which takes about 26 minutes. This is to stop me getting bored and giving up.

The wii fit step arrived today which rises the wii fit board by 3 inches, this will allow for some stepping exercises that actually burn a few calories. I done one 30 minute session on it today and I like it, so all is well in the land of fat loss.

Day 40
Doesn't time fly 40 days already.
Because I've been getting a bit bored with the bike I've now ordered a treadmill so I can do a bit of both. It should hopefully be here within 5 working days. I can't run on it because of back problems but I'm hoping i can do walking while supporting myself with the handles. It's got to beat sitting in a chair.

I like my treadmill. Mine has electronic incline up to 10% and varying the incline and speed really makes the time go by quick. I've also thought about a bike just to mix it up a bit. Let me know how you like the combination of doing both. I'm on day 51 and I've lost 47 pounds. The weight was flying off and then the last 2 weeks it slowwed down to just a couple pounds per week. The last coupe days I had early meetings at work and couldn't exercise in the mornings then played golf and drank beer the last couple evenings and surprisingly lost 5 pounds in 2 days. Go figure.

Day 43, Not a good day today, had hot dog and fries whilst out and only done half hour exercise.
Treadmill should be here on 2nd of March so just over a week, can't wait.
