well i am new to the diet thing, but i saw something that i guess justs seems weird too me. i saw this "fasting diet" thing, the one that tells you to eat whatever you want, grease, fat, carbs, the works, it says you eat as you normally every other day, and on the days in between you fast and eat only veggies and water. now, this strikes me as a bit stupid. they say that your body will be used to burning more calories, so it wont adjust to you eating less on the days your "fasting" it will still burn as amny calories as it does on days you eat normally. i mean it would be great and i would love it to work because i could handle that. i just wanted to see what people thought of this "diet" of sorts.

now, this strikes me as a bit stupid.

I'd agree with your instincts on that one...

What has been proven to work, over and over again, is to change how a person "normally' eats... that doesn't mean starving themselves, or elminiating entire groups of food, or doing te pornographic hokey pokey on alternate wednesdays (though my book being released next year that will play a big factor :D

To lose weight, requires using more calories than a person takes in - the toughest part is to figure out where that calorie range is... then use tools like or the many other free online food journals and keep track of your calories til you get comfortable :D

Agreed. That fasting thing is stupid.

The only thing that works is move more and eat less. Less of the junky stuff, that is....sugar, white flour, bad fats, etc.

Fruits, veggies, lean protein, whole grains and watch the calories each day. It's really simple and those silly diet ideas aren't healthy.

Best of luck!

Sounds like the lastest quickie try anything fix. I have a co-worker who is also trying to shed some pounds. He's had medical problems already & was advised by doctors..DO IT NOW. Well he is on something similar, a eat normally (not quite sure what that is exactly!) one day, then the next you only eat 500 calories & supposedly your body doesn't go into starvation mode, so you can trick it by not eating as many calories.

Sounds like a strange modern day torture to me. Have a good day, then a crappy one...

I think I would much rather get myself eating healthy all the time & enjoy life.

good luck.

This sounds like an extreme form of calorie zig zagging. The amount of weightloss will depend on how much that person is really eating on the "normal" day. For me, I tend to eat more the more I eat and less the less I eat, so this kind of plan, in a TOTALLY MODIFIED way, works better for me then just trying to eat reasonably every day. So I may allow myself more food on the weekend and then I'll eat less (but still over 1500 calories) on the next day. I dont let myself go totally overboard on the weekend, but I can't help myself and I end up eating more than I should. But I dont have a hard time eating much less after a few days. So this works for me. But eating practically nothing, and then counteracting it with eating whatever you want, does not sound sustainable or healthy. The body needs some food and water every day. Try the modified approach (where you dont go below 1200 calories as a minimum on your low days and you dont go too far over your maintenance calories on your high days).

For one thing the human body needs food every 3-4 hours and if it doesn't get it your body will start breaking down muscle tissue. Sure you lose weight from less muscle but is that realy what you are looking for? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me either.

I see the good things as FASTING is HEALTHY

I would like to review the source of this food plan.
What type of fast?
The POSITIVE things with fasting are 1) the fasting is a healthy thing,
it is also cleansing, result: eat less and be more energetic
2) fasting can stimulate quick weight loss and stubborn fat
3) after a fast the body is more efficient, after cleansing the nutrient intake is more efficient, energy is increased
4) fasting breaks the cycle of overeating, helps you gain control

The DRAW BACKS I could see: it may be very difficult at first to go from normal eating to fasting.
But if you are serious and stay with it I think you will enjoy the weight loss, the control over cravings, subsequently you will feel better and in the end find you like it and you WILL NATURALLY begin to eat less and crave less.
(Keep in mind this is cutting back on carbs which is great but exercise would be key as well to permanent weight loss.)
You will be fasting 4 out of 8 days. You should see some real POSITIVE changes in your health! Let me know what you decide, Kathy ps I may join you

I can't go more than 4 hours without eating, so any sort of fast would be impossible. I just get too cranky and my blood sugar feels like its dropping and I get bitchy and a bit crazy. I must eat!

I believe there are plenty of theories on fasting, but any scientific studies about its benefits? I'm not sure humans need to fast to cleanse their systems as I believe we are self-cleansing. Like do we really need enemas? :rotflmao: Dont think so but there are proponents out there.

thank you everyone for all your info. i think im goin to try it, but im going to do it the smart way. pobobly a sensible diet , you know, stay healthy, lean foods im not going to eat greasy food and fat just because its my " bad" day. and then on the off days, ill keep it around 1200 calories. we will see i guess.
