Just Starting

Hello,
I'm new to this. I started at Curves yesterday. For the past day and a half I have been eating really great. I have worked out twice at Curves and enjoyed it - though didn't burn as many calories as I would like.

I am 5'4" and 238lbs. I hear the first pounds shed quickly. Is this true? I'm too antsy about it but I'm confident that I'll stay motivated.

What do people think about muscle milk and Naked protein drinks?

Also, how can I incorporate protein into my diet that is NOT meat.

Thanks for the support!

Rachel

welcome to the forum :)

you don't need big name brand protein powders, with products like muscle milk your paying for the name and the claims, basic protein powder is all that is needed. Try for one that is lower in carbs to help keep calories down, using those calories saved to eat real food.

The actual amount of protein you need will depend on your activities but general activity is 1 gram per kg of bodyweight, if you measure bodyfat levels the it can be based on lean body mass.

There are a lot of non animal product sources of protein, too many to list here but a quick google search will bring up a list of most of them.

Welcome!

About shedding the first few pounds quickly, that's generally true.
This is called waterweight, which you can lose quite fast when you start from going to a sedentary to an active lifestyle.

However each individual is unique and this may not apply to you (ie you allready had a diet with low salt levels before you started, so you didn't retain that much water to begin with).

Do not be discouraged if the pounds don't fly off right away. If you keep doing the right things (exercise and eat right) the results will follow!

QUINOA!!!

Its such a powerful food source and a veggie protein. I use it instead of having pasta and bread. It is also high in omegas and vitamins and is great for helping you lose weight.

Pronounced Keenwah.... but yeah.. check it out.
