Just starting... Where to begin...

I am 23 years old and have looked in the mirror for the last time at this reflection I see staring back at me. My life is what I consider close to perfect. I am happily married, in nursing school. My only negative "ugh" in my life is my weight. I have tried so many things. I have been overweight I would say for the last 8 years and I am sick of it. I want to be comfortable going to the beach, swimming in friends. Not intimidated by the little bitty girls. Not getting disgusting looks from others. I came here hoping that I could get the support and motivation that I need to get where I want to be for ME!!! I am so excited. Any useful info that anyone wants to give me, please do!

Nice to meet all of you!

Welcome. I am fairly new to weightloss too. One thing that helped a lot was going through this website and reading all the sticky threads -- lots of good info there.

I've modified my diet to eliminate most processed foods, and eat clean as much as I can -- fresh fruits & veg, dairy, fish, whole grains. When I started losing, I didn't count calories, just modified the diet bit by bit, and lost about a pound a month over a year. When the weight-loss slowed, I began reading more, searching the internet, and found this site, which has been a life saver and kick-started my weightloss.

Someone here recommended joining fitday.com to track calories, and it really works -- keeps me accountable. Also increasing exercise very gradually.

Welcome to the board and good luck with your journey!

Welcome.

I also recommend reading the sticky threads in all of the forums - there's a lot of good information there.

What I've done and has worked for me is to make an effort to eat "clean" - that is to eat real foods and to avoid packaged and processed foods as much as possible. That alone has made a huge difference in both my weight and my overall health.

Then within that range, I track my calories and try to make sure I get a healthy amount of calories with balanced amounts of carbs/protein/fat. And I exercise, of course. :) I lift weights and do cardio at 2x or 3x a week each.

Feel free to ask questions - there are lots of people around who are willing to help!
