I'm really discouraged. I've been working really hard for 2 weeks at keeping under 1200 calories a day and I only lost 2 pounds. What a struggle! And for what?

Don't be Discouraged

Hi Tavita, I am a newbie here myself, but not a newbie to losing weight. First of all, losing 2 lbs. is GREAT. There is no reason to be discouraged. If this was easy none of us would be here. You continue working at it and you will continue to see results. Don't give into it. I know you can do it. So my new friend, no pity parties here....... :p You keep at it. You have my support and if you need to chat, let me know. Good luck, my friend. :)

You're starving yourself.
When you get under about 1200 calories a day, your body will go into starvation mode, and you will not lose fat well. Your body will not burn the fat because it thinks you have no food available. You need to figure out a healthy amount to be eating--there are formulas available to find your RMR and use your activity level to find how much you should be eating, in fact there's one posted here http://weight-loss.fitness.com/nutrition/8810-high-calories-low-fat.html#post181960. You can also sign up at Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople and they'll give you an estimated calorie range to consume for your activity level.
But you *can't* healthily lose weight eating so little.

Bethy hit it right on... take up the cals, maybe 1500 or so...

Its not just the count of cals that is importat but also what it is you are eating. Balance and moderation is key to dieting, as it is with life.

Also, make sure you are drinking water!

Welcome aboard, any Qs ask away

heya.. hm maybe u can incorporate some exercise into ur daily life? cos keeping under a certain number of calories may work for a while, but ur metabolism will adjust according to ur diet and ur weight will remain stagnant.. so exercise is the best way to keep ur metabolism high and ur body will burn up extra calories! i agree with bethyness that eating under 1200 calories is too little and it is not a diet u can continue for the rest of ur life.. it's better to have a healthy diet coupled with exercise.. all the best to u yea? take care =)
