Just looking for some tips

Hey everyone. I just signed up for this forum today. I am 22 years old and I'm 6'5" and 290 pounds. I decided to go back to school and I am wanting to join the Air Force ROTC next year. I'm not in terrible shape (I have passed the physical abilities tests for California and Oregon law enforcement agencies), but I am still too big for military. Anyway, I joined this forum for the sake of finding out what others have done and are doing to tackle weight problems. I also have a tip of my own... cycling. I understand that it's difficult to afford a nice bike for alot of people. I was lucky enough to have a dad that gave me a very nice road bike. But you'll find that the biggest factor isn't components or materials, but geometry. What this means is that, for beginners, a lower level bike should work fine. I ride a Specialized Sequoia Pro. This is a wonderful bike, but Specialized across the board, are wonderful bikes. You can get a nice Specialized starting around $350, which is way cheaper than an elliptical, and more fun in my opinion. I wouldn't recommend buying online because you may end up buying the wrong size for yourself. But cycling is wonderful for people who are overweight, just large in general, and for people who have bad knees or ankles. I look forward to finding my way to a fit lifestyle. God bless all of you.
