So here's the thing. I'm 26, started having kids pretty early, and now 3 kids later, I weight about 205 lbs. (I was about 140 when I met my hubby!) I didn't really start to get self-concious about it until after my last baby, who was born a little over a year ago. My husband and I have decided not to have any more kids, and I would like to start trying to take off some of this weight. My biggest problem here is finding the best way to do it!! I'm not really very good with dieting, I can never figure out how much I'm supposed to be eating, or what. I know it vegetables and exercise, but I'm aware that there is more to it than that and am hoping to pick up some ideas and tips from this website. Recently, I have been checking my sugar and it's been on the high side now and then. I did go to the dr. and I am not diabetic, but I have diabetes all over the place in my family, so I know I'm at high risk. I need to make a plan here!! What do you guys think about Slim Fast? Is it worth trying? Does anybody know what correct portion sizes are? And should I rush out and get a treadmill? Thanks for the help! I look forward to talking to you all!!! :newbie:

Hi and welcome. Start reading the stickies. There's information in them on how to calculate your caloric needs and how much less you should take in to lose weight. Sometimes it's good to start on the diet first and then work in the exercise. Dieting isn't just eating vegetables. It's eating well balanced healthy foods. It's making healthy choices.
After you have figured out how much you should be taking in to lose weight then start looking up the calorie and nutritional content of the foods you eat.
Good luck.

As far as the slim fast goes it's OK if you replace a meal once in a while but It's better to eat food.
