Well here it is, my first post.

I joined last week but put off posting until I took a look around. I really like what I have seen of the site. But enough about that.

Now about me. I'm 40 yrs old, and 210lbs wanting to get to my old army weight of 165lbs. I have tried to lose before but I keep running into the same problem. I get to bored or run out of motivation. It's not like it was when I was in the army. I loved working out. I even talked my Platoon Sargent (who was a fitness freak) into working with me after duty hours. He would always keep me motivated and at the same time worked my butt off. Now that I'm out of the army (not by my choice, medically retired) whenever I try to work out, I just can't stay focused or motivated. I really enjoyed working out with someone that pushed me and made me go that extra mile. Since I've been out, I have yet to find that one person to give me that push. It was almost like a smoking addiction. I need that push to keep me going.

Well anyways, I figured that if I joined here it may help me find an alternative to my motivation problem (addiction)

Welcome to the community, man. My opinion is you're setting yourself up for failure by relying on outside factors to control your level of desire, dedication and/or consistency.

What if the 'right' training partner doesn't come along?

My suggestion would be to find ways to internally motivate yourself. You might consider reading through a recent of mine. Hopefully it will get the wheels spinning in the right direction.

Let us know if there's anything we can do.

Thanks for the welcome and reply.

Steve, I read your blog very good. I especially like this passage from it:

"You undoubtedly know yourself better than I do, or anyone else for that matter. You simply have to be willing to accept the truth and be honest with yourself. Own up to your faults (which we all have) so you can begin replacing them."

The whole blog helped me alot, thank you.
