Weight-Loss Junk Food Friday!

Isn't Friday night meant to be junk food night? What a stupid rule that is. I have come to understand that food really does have a massive impact on our lives. It isn't just the weight you put on when eating bad. Nor is it the guilt after a quick short term pleasure binge where the negative emotion afterward far outweigh the brief 'pleasure' gained. It is more fundamental than that. We are indeed what we eat. And eating poorly affects your mood, your skin, your state of mind, your level of happiness, your outlook on life, your motivation. I feel so good right now.

Something inside me has changed. The idea of 'treating' myself to bad food seems crazy to me. Why would I want to pollute my body and go back to feeling the way I did? Overall, I feel much better now than the fake pleasure (comfort?) from eating bad. I guess before I was stressed, worked very long hours, and eating was a pleasant distraction. Now, I am relaxed, happy, and see food for what it is - life. And the quality of that life depends entirely on the quality of that food. So no more bad food!

I am from New Zealand (NZ, the clean green paradise!) and am three weeks into a 12 week transformation challenge. Already 10+ pounds down, you can follow my daily journey here

Eating a candy bar or a cookie once in a great while isn't going to pollute your body and strike you dead. Variety. Sanity.

I think everything in moderation is the key...

:iagree:

As long as your form of 'moderation' isn't the same as my mother's twisted way "It's ok you haven't had Burger king in awhile" "Yeah but you just had Mcdonalds yesterday" :rotflmao:

^.^ agreed. there's nothing wrong with having some 'junk' food once a month or something. I am fan of the "cheat" day myself. and have a cookie once a day, small low fat one tho.. moderation moderation!

I hear ya's, but my problem is this - if I was to open a packet of cookies, the whole packet would be gone. I know, I know, self control and all that jazz, heck it is like some evil alien takes over my brain due to some weird hatred of skinny people, I just cannot stop until its all gone. So for me, taking the healthy route while i undergo this weight loss and exercise program, it is best I avoid junk food fridays for now. Once I have got to where I need to be, then yes, I will be moderate. It isn't as if I am weak willed, I have been to the gym 5 days a week for 5 weeks now (my body fat percentage has dropped from 35% (how jubbly) to 18% in that time). I guess I just want to avoid the temptation for now.

Snacks...

I try and avoid snacking, but when I do it is either:

Nuts (almonds mmm)
Blueberries
Raw baby Carrots
Raisins

Hmmm... well as long as your happy. I don't care for blueberries or raisins, but id have carrots and nuts. So you dont have chips, like ever? Or even frozen yogurt? that musta been hard to do huh?

uh... your snacks are all good and healthy. I don't know why you would avoid them. you don't want to train yourself to not eat.

I know when I was a kid friday was seen as a junk food day. We'd ALWAYS get pizza friday night.

Just thinking of pizza is making me dizzy now. I be starving. Can't wait to get home and eat.

Fatbird, if you can't help but eat the whole pack? how about buy individually packed cookies, or other treats? for example, buy only 1 at a newsagent or something, that way wont have any at home or any large packs to eat.. :) I usually do that, go treat myself with a chocolate cookie once in a while.

oh and I'm a fan of cheat day once a week (rather every 2 weeks), have anything I want: had crisps and pancakes today with cheese. But I think that if you dont have much control and are just starting to diet, that it might mislead you. Once I got my routine, i could eat some "junk" food once in a while =D .. yum.
