hi i was wondering if any of you have joined a fitness club? cos im thinking of joining one which offers aerobibs, kickboxing, yoga, cardio, etc.. which i think is going to be really fun.. the problem is that i cant find any friends to join with that's why im hesitant bout joining it.. i guess im a very shy person, so i dont really dare to try things by myself.. can anyone give me advice on what to do?

I have only joined a gym, but I did that alone and I guess joining a fitness club is pretty similar... dont worry about being alone, once you've been a few times you wont feel so conspicuous and self conscious, and you might make a few friends there.

If you go ahead and join, you will wonder what you were worrying for pretty soon, and yes you will probably have some fun with it while getting to a weight you're happier with. It's all to help you do that so just keep that in mind and jump right in. :)

I agree with Sprite. I joined a gym and was a bit insecure at times to just wander around the gym and try out the free weights and machines. After a while though, you see the same people over and over again and they're at the gym for the same reason as you. Don't feel paranoid or like anyone is watching you...they're not.

DO IT!! You'll be really happy you did!

Good luck!

if you can get a trial membership for a few days before committing, i would suggest doing so - my area there were two gyms to pick from - a ballys (which had more ammenities) and a neighborhood gym - while the ballys had a pool and more equipment, it was way too meat marketish and i felt really out of place - when women show up at the gym with full makeup on - it's not the place for me.. my local gym, while it's got it's quirk - has what i need and while i'm probably one of the oldest and most out of shape members - but i've never felt uncomfortable.

I'd recommend trying to join a class such as spinning, kickboxing, aerobics, etc. That way you will see the same people over and over. Show up a few minutes early and you're bound to meet some new people with similar interests. If they don't have classes like this, you might ought to look elsewhere.
