join a gym?

i am currently working out in my garage. i have a bench, barbell,ez curl bar, dumbells and a pull up bar. i dont know if i should just keep on working in the garage or join a gym. i know that sooner or later im going to outgrow the weights that i have and need to buy more. i also feel that i can get injured easier working out in the garage since theres usually no1 to spot me. what do you guys think?

Well, unless you bring a friend or continually ask people to spot you at the gym, you won't have a spotter there either. I'd just buy a power rack and some more weight.

I workout alone in a garage. I got stuck on the flat bench once - thought I was gonna have to ask the neighborhood kids to help me - but I managed. That's the only drawback in my opinion is that I don't feel comfortable pushing my limits - weightwise - so I have to make sure that my intesity makes up for it.

The drawbacks to a gym are: getting use of the machine/weights you want to use, cost, morons (people), having to drive there... i'm sure there's more. Theres advantages too though but I like the garage.

my freinds usually come over at night around 9 and hang out so im thinking i should just wait intill 9 to workout so i have someone to spot me....

do you guys think its possible to get big by just working out in a garage?

I workout in the exercise room in my apartment building, similar setup to a home gym, I know for a fact though if it was 20 degrees below 0 (which it was all month in January) and I had to put any more effort into going to the gym than walking down the stairs I would drop out pretty damn fast. Would be ok the rest of the time to walk or drive over there, but would be hard to regain motivation after a break.
