Hello everyone, I am new here, I am a 23 year old guy. I am 6'1 and I weigh 364 lbs. I have lost 86 pounds now, down from 450 and I figure it's about time to get some answers on a few things regarding exercise because I don't want to be a bag of skin when I reach my final goals.
So far I've just been walking everyday for around 30 minutes but I feel like adding in some jogging. Obviously being a very big man I'm not sure if its the safest thing to do. Also being a young adult with a crappy job I can't really afford to see any kind of doctor or dietitian to find out the best course of action. As it is right now, just doing my normal 30 minute walk doesn't really get my heart pumping anymore, I can walk pretty fast without breaking a sweat.
So recently I've added in some jogging and it's not much. Basically I can't jog for an extended period of time, maybe around 30 seconds at the most. So what I do is after about 5 minutes into my walk I'll do a 20-30 second jog, give myself a couple minutes to catch my breath and then do it again. I generally only do it around 4-5 times per walk but my heart seems to stay up during the entire walk.
I'm just wondering if this is safe for a person my size as my heart really can get going fast. Other than this problem I was also wondering if anyone could give me ideas on how to basically keep maintenance on my body so It wont become very saggy and unwieldy when I get down farther around 100 lbs from now. I've read that weight training is the way to do this, but I get discouraged when I go to the scale after I've done a couple weeks with weight training mixed in. The loss number is never as high as I would like. I realize that I am still losing fat and sculpting my body more but its mainly a morale thing. I'd like to hold off on weight training for a while until I absolutely need to start.
Well, sorry for the long post, I hope everything came out pretty coherent.
Thanks much.
