Jodans' Journalish Type Deal

Hey everyone.
My name is Jeff and I am 24 years old.
At 5'5" and 190lbs I can stand to lose a little weight.
I have had success before as when I was about 16 or 17 I had a top weight of about 250lbs.

I am single and work as an armed Security Patrol Officer.
So I work 10 hour shifts and spend most of it seated in a patrol cruiser.
I do however do some foot patrols.

My major eye opener was during one of these patrols I got to the top of some stairs and was completely out of breath.
I realized at that moment that if there had been someone at the top of those stairs that wanted to hurt or kill me, I would not have been able to do anything about it because I was too out of breath.

So right now my main goal is not weight loss per se, but more to get into better shape. Stamina I think is the term for it.

About half an hour I found what my major obstacle is going to be.
Me.
I just went to the gym here at my apartment complex and after about 5 minutes of working out, I got extremely lightheaded, was starting to black out and I felt like I was having a heart attack.

Can anyone tell me how to overcome this?
Being out of shape is bad enough, but so out of shape that I can't even excersize to improve? There has to be a way to do this.
My main thought is to just go there and excersize until I pass out, then wake up and crawl home for a couple days of rest until I can go do it again.
I am hoping there are some better ideas here.

Thanks,
Jeff

I would say start slowly and do what you can do and work your way up from there... walking is a great way to start with that - either on a treadmill (which makes me go faster because of less distractions) or outside where I can go longer... but get out and do some walking where it's not part of your job but as a means to getting yourself moving.

If you got lightheaded after five minutes, depending on what you were doing that doesn't sound good - I would strongly suggest going to a doctor and getting yourself checked out to m ake sure you can exercise and there's not a physical condition causing the problem. Seriously - go to a doctor.

welcome to your journalish type deal thingie and to the site by the way - enjoy your stay and have fun while you're here.. Just please do take care of your health...
