Goals -

1. To lose about 35 pounds

This will be accomplished combination of moderate exercise and a change in diet (elimination of fried foods, processed sugars and diary items). For the time being, I will not count calories too carefully. The idea is to eat when I'm hungry so I'm less likely to overeat. I'm also drinking 3 liters of water a day to help reduce my appetite and clear out my pores.

2. To get into shape and be able to do long-distance running again

This will be accomplished by anaerobic exercise mixed with a little running. For the time being, I'm taking a 1-hour pilates class 2x week, and I'll be doing a 15 run/walk twice a week.

My short-term goal is to do this for about 3-4 weeks before adding in a 3rd 15-minute run. After I do that for about 4-6 weeks, I'll start training to run a marathon.

I used love to run, but unfortunately my college schedule made it hard to keep up. Then after I graduated "life happened" (bought a house planned a wedding in 6 months). Just when I was about to get back into running, I had scary unexplained health problems. These included extreme fatigue, artheritis, muscle pain, mood swings, hallucinations, and headaches.

We didn't know what caused it so I feared I'd never be able to run again. Fortunately, we discovered and fixed the cause--CO poisoning. I feel we are very blessed, and that I have been giving a second chance on life. I plan to live it to the fullest now! :D

Yay! You started a journal - looks like you've got your goals laid out nicely.. .glad to have you here - I know how life can just come at you and suddenly it's two years later and you look down... 'WHOA' haha atleast that's MY story! Good luck with your day today - I hope everything goes great for you! Just start off with small goals.. like fried foods and pop and that for the first couple days - week.. you know what you're doing.. what am I talking about? Haha.. Cheers! :)

Hi, Elizabeth-

Thanks! I totally can relate! :)

What keeps me motivated is the plan that at the end of the summer hopefully I'll look down and say "WHOA" but it will have a different meaning than now. :)

Update: 3/24 -

Morning weight - 136.6 pounds
Waist measurements - 36"
(LT goal - 25"-27"--been there, that's where I'm most comfortable).

Did pilates last night. We were working on legs instead of abs (d'oh) so I was a bit wiped and sore (I ran the day before). But sleep does wonders. I feel very good today!

I think hereon out, I'm going to run the day after I take a pilates class, because I usually have more energy the day after. I'll have more energy to pay attention in class, too, if I have a day of rest in between running and class.

My husband and I are looking into joining a gym. We'll probably be doing the Merritt, because the only thing he can think of that he likes to do is swim--and they have a pool, weights, and pilates classes. Our doctor wants him to get into shape so he can have his cholesteral re-tested for heart disease (it runs rampent on his father's side).

My pilates class with our local rec center ends next week. If we don't join a gym right away, I'll continue my 2x week pilates workout with my Giam DVDs (I have one for pilates and one for yoga :).

I saw my dr. today. We talked about the CO exposure, and he was very excited we finally found out the cause of my health problems. There should be no long-term problems from it that can't be fixed with a little exercise, and there is nothing more I need to do to follow up. It's very awesome not to have to see doctors anymore. :)
