jammed finger

i jammed my middle finger while catching a football earlier today, i shook it off and kept playing but after almost 12 hours and a couple of icings it doesnt feel much better
right now its swollen with a bruising at the lower joint with limited movement (with some pain i can almost fist my hand)
i dont think i remember a jammed finger lasting this long...
is there reason to be concerned or should i give it more time?

Jammed fingers can last up to a week. I'd give it that long, then go to see a doc if it doesn't improve. Continue to ice it until the swelling stops, then apply heat. If the swelling gets worse, go see a doc because you might have a break.

ok nearly 24 hours later, not much better
it only hurts if i try to fist my hand
im far from an expert but it doesnt look like its broken as i can move both joints

now my question is should i keep trying to move it, keep it still, or even put it in a splint? right now im still using it to type
thanks

If it was broken or dislocated, believe me you'd know. Light use is fine, just avoid footballs lol..

When I was a soccer goalie, I jammed at least one finger a game. They were usually swollen for a few days and hurt somewhat for longer than that. Obviously, if you're concerned, see a doc but it sounds normal to me.
