I've started working out with my friends

At work we have a small workout facility with some nice equipment in it. There were 3 girls that I work with that I knew went down after work and I asked if they minded if I started coming and they said they'd love to have me.

I started Monday and there's another guy from our section that goes, and so far it's been great! Everyone is very supportive of each other and we encourage each other to "keep it up". The girls are trying to lose weight, too, but none have nearly as far to go as I do. Just by having the support (and I have to admit that part of it has to do with the fact that I'm not going to let them outdo me!) I've doubled my workout time and going twice as far.

So far I've just been on the treadmill, although last night I started on an elliptical machine, and I'd forgotten how hard that was to get started on!

I've found that having friends to workout with is making a big difference for me!

Great job and good luck in your journey!!! I am actually the opposite. I'd rather not work out around people I know, because they always want to chat chat chat. haha I have met a few girlfriends in my cardio classes, but when class starts everyone shuts up. :)

It's funny you say that. The girls sit there and talk, but I've got my earphones in and my music cranked up and just look around now and then. They have to yell if they want to get my attention :cuss::smilielol5:

Yeah thats the biggest thing. Just make sure you arent cheating yourself out of a great workout due to being a girly and chatting it up too much with ur buds. I know when its my sis and I , i dont get to kick as much butt as when im all buisness doing my work out alone!!! hehe

Glad to see you going to work out. Keep at it, i'm sure you'll do great with your friends supporting you. Just a reminder to not just do cardio. While a good starting point, for real fat loss it's not the optimal thing to be doing. A proper fatloss workout will include just as much time per week doing resistance training.

Don't have to worry about that...when we get in there I'm the most serious one of all. Of the 3, there's one who is strictly business (she'll talk but primarily concentrates on reading a book while she does her thing), another one that's mostly business (likes to talk while she's on the treadmill) then the third one who's not much business (isn't real serious but is lots of fun). They are a trip to hang out with!

Having a support system is awesome. I work out with a friend as well. She only works out three days a week, where as I work out 5, so the days she doesn't go, I find it really hard to go to the gym. But I do push myself to go anyway. It's just really motivating having the support :)

bah! as long as you're moving, and burning energy its better than sitting on your butt watching TV. If you have fun chatting it up while doing whatever it is you're doing its going to make a difference. Having fun makes it go by much faster, and seems less liek a chore. this should always be your focus. Of course if you're not seeing results, you may have to make it a point to work a little harder :)

So far it seems to be working pretty well. Everyone encourages each other and it's almost like no one wants to be outdone, especially this other guy that comes in. He's going to go as long as I do no matter what and make sure he works a little harder. That pushes me, but I also know my limits.

great job! Now that you know your limits... make sure you gently push them, its called progression, and its what a lot of people lose sight of. as long as you are looking to get better, faster, and stronger. Your body will adapt, and side of that adaptation is often better body composition
