I've lost 25 lbs in 2 months... some things that helped me

1) exercise , nothing to extreme... running 3 times a week, bowflex 3 times a week, and rollerblading every now and again.

2) Stopped using the salt shaker

3) I eat b'fast every AM, a bowl of cereal usually... bran flakes or special K with skim milk. It fills me up and I usually have less cravings when I'm full ( go figure )

4) Fats Food ( note the spelling ), I pretty much cut out fast food... I might have eaten out 3 times in the last 2 months. Also when we have pizza, I try to limit myself to 2 pieces.

5) Water- I drink tonnes of it.

6) I try not to eat late at nite, sometimes it hard because I work nightshift but I think it has helped.

I hope some of these tips help ... they have helped me. If I had been seriously dieting , I prob would have lost another 15 lbs in that same time period.

All good tips. Basically, you got up and started exercising a bit, consistently.
You gave up the crap food, and started watching your portions when you do have 'cheat food' like pizza.
No more sodas, just calorie free water.

iknow from personal expirience that soda and junk food alone can probably make u loose like ten pounds when u first cut them out of ur diet...they are soo bad for u.

Another thing I used to help me was when I had a bad workout/run.... I would think , well it's alot better than doing nothing at all, or sitting on the couch and eating .

Also when I did happen to fall off the wagon ( happened when I was on vacation ), I came right back and continued where I left off. I thought to myself I put too much effort into this to just give up on it now.

Thinking like this helped me, hopefully it'll work for you too.

If you had been seriously dieting, one of two things would probably have happened: 1) You limit your calories so your body enters starvation mode, and stores anything you put into your mouth, and you gain it all back plus some eventually. 2) You lost the weight, and figured - "Ok, I'm done dieting", and started eating like you did before, and eventually gaining it all back and then some. The approach you took is the common sense one, and the most effective - eating well and working out is a life sentence... keep up the good work.

Oi Oi

Starvation mode is when your body has nothing else to feed on (carbs), and starts breaking down your muscle and using that for fuel. Terrible for you. You must consume to lose. Why do anarexics(sp?), although very skinny.. have NO muscle? You do consume less calories... but you must make sure its enough to keep you going.. so your body does not go into starvationg mode. You are suppose to take your regular normal caloric intake and subtract 500 calories. You still must consume fats, carbs, and protein, but in devised portions and they must be good healthy fats and carbs.

Any before and afters Brady? Also very unlikely to lose 35 lbs in a period of 2 months. I wouldn't go that far, but I am very interested in seeing a before and after. Managing some fast food, pizza, and some days where you at late at night, and still lose that amount is very promising if you can show a picture?

Also yes soda is terrible for you. My sisters nutrionist told her the first week you stop drinking pop you'll lose 5 lbs. Also know that 1 can a day for a year will put on 15+ lbs from pop ALONE. You may rethink grabbing that Fanta?

Thanks so much for posting, Brady, and great advice, Stingo and Brahma. Sometimes it's all too easy to get obsessed with weightloss and forget how our bodies actually function. I always say it should be about lifestyle change, rather than 'dieting'. Like you say, life sentence and all that.

Well I got weighed today... weighed 221. When I started I weighed 250 lbs. That was the end of may. So, in a little over 3 months I've lost 29 lbs.

Here's my before pic : I know it's not clear. I wish I had a better one.

here I am 10 lbs lighter... a clearer pic , it'll give you a better idea.

I don't have a pic from today ....

but here's one of me at 225:

Congrats, Brady12!!! You have the right idea- JUST DO IT!

I post 5 tips to fat loss so often on these boards. The reality is they are not "fat loss secrets" or anything of the such. It's just 5 common sense tips to losing fat and keeping it off. They can all be summed up by saying- JUST DO IT!

Best of luck to you. You figured out what takes people YEARS to figure out... it's a lifestyle change- not a diet and not a temporary change. Everyone has off days/week, but the important thing is that 90% of the time you are healthy and aware. Have a bad day or a bad meal- no problem start being healthy again the moment you realize you strayed off track. NO GUILT.

ok so i can still eat wot i used to but less of it, ej if i used to eat two eggs in the morning now im just avin one, if i used to have 200grs of spagetti now ill ave just 100,etc am i right, that of course with arseloads of water and loads of green veggiers

Well that is the idea off these forums. People try to stress that whatever you eat now.. just cut it in half.. but its really not the case. If you want to see best results cutting out spaghetti completely will only benefit you even more. The idea of taking what you normally consume and taking out 500 cals means when your taking out those 500 cals thats when you want to start eating healthy. Meaning chicken, fish, lean meats, veggies, egg whites! etc... And yes alot of water. Although you can treat yourself to cheat meals once a week.. or once every 2 weeks depending on what will keep you motivated if you can have something you love once a week. This is a life changing decision. This is not a temporary crash diet, and start eating junk once you are finished. Hope this helps.

starvation mode is when you go too low on calories. you only need a 10-20% calorie deficit (300-600 calories for most people) to lose body fat.

but you get people who think 'more deficit is better' so they eat twigs and leaves and consume a whopping 900 calories a day. they gain weight, feel like crap, and are too tired to workout. most any weight lost during this kind of 'dieting' is pure muscle mass, not fat.

Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum and found this thread particularly appealing.

I am in the process of losing a heap of weight that I put on when I met my current girlfriend (45 pounds). I totally agree with the philosophy that this thread brings up. I think when people decide they to lose weight (particularly if its a decent amount) they can be put off by the measures a lot of people go to achieve and maintain their physique when in reality it just takes some common sense.

Losing weight isn’t about starving yourself or depriving yourself of the things you love. It's about balancing your lifestyle so that everything is done in moderation. I still love to eat out, have a few beers with my mates etc, but I also know to do it every so often and to counter act this behaviour with healthy eating and exercise. By doing this weight loss becomes realistic, achievable at most importantly, maintainable.

Cheers,
J

P.s. thanks for all the inspiration so far!

I am down to 217 now, I wasn't losing anymore weight. The bowflex workout was ok, running ok, my diet was still crap. I bought BODY FOR LIFE, it gave me some needed structure, and it is really working. I lost 6 lbs in a little over a week.

Body For Life is one of the few programs I recommend to folks. I wouldn't recommend spending money on their supplements/shakes because there are better ones out there for less money.

But the basic premise of the program- excellent.

This is actually something that I've written about for Kevin on his website,
