I've hit a plateu of doom...

So here is my story...

I was diagnosed with insulin resistance five years ago and began to eat a certain way. I lost 64 pounds over a year and maintained it for a year. Then I gained it all back and then some because of a medication I was put on. I have since lost about the same amount, but it has taken TWO years and I STILL have 15 more pounds to go....the problem is that my weight has not BUDGED since February. I have NEVER experienced a plateau like this and I am beginning to get desperate.

I cannot even begin to tell you how disheartening it is. I don't fit into all my clothes yet and it's what I want the most of all because I love fashion and I have a lot of cute clothes.

I'm exercising pretty much regularly and I'm STILL not losing weight. Most of my weight is on my butt and thighs, but I have a little on my tummy. Do you guys have ANY advice on how I can jump-start my metabolism again?

Again, I REALLY cannot have carbs because it makes my blood sugar spike and then I crash and literally feel sick for days. PLEASE HELP!!!

As you get closer to your goal you can expect progress to slow down and have long stalls at times, As someone who follows a strict keto way of eating I do understand tour not wanting carbs.

are you tracking calories and macro's ?
what sort of exercise are you doing ?

I'm not really keeping track of calories--just carbs. I'm pretty much doing strictly aerobic exercise. This is because I want to keep track of how many pounds I have lost and my nutritionist says that if I gain muscle, that can throw off the scale. My goal was to lose weight, THEN gain muscle. But yeah. It has been literally months. I don't ever remember having a plateau like this before when I lost weight the first time around. Then again, I was 4 years younger and I'm told that even THAT can make a difference in your metabolism. Especially if you lost weight the first time. Your body expects it and you hold onto it now. Gotta admire the body's determination to survive.

I'm wondering though if I should break off from the aerobic exercise and start targeting lean muscles though. Do you have any advice? It would be much appreciated.

Ok, break off isn't right. I mean cut it to like 20 minutes and just do muscle training. I know aerobic exercise is important. Especially for someone with asthma like me.

Yes you need to be lifting to build muscle, your nutritionist is being lazy, strength training is important for re-composition, your primary goal is changing size not the scales, so don't panic over the scales so much. Get your bodyfat % measured and use it as a way of tracking progress. Your clothes are your primary guide.

also it is still possible to over eat, even if your keeping your carbs under control, as you loose weight especially if you have lost muscle from cutting but not lifting, your body needs less and adjustments have to be made.

Thanks! Any suggestions as to what kind of weight training I should do? Like I said, my weight is primarily in my thighs and butt. A tiny bit in my tummy but less so. Should I target just those areas? Or my whole body?

If you have not done any strength training before, start out slow and do a full body routine 3 days per week, make sure your form is correct for each exercise you do, keep the weights light until your form is perfect. Keep reps under 8 to target strength rather than building muscle size (you wan't small tight muscles not bloated bodybuilder muscles if you main goal is to fit back into your clothes) the last rep in each set should feel like you couldn't another rep but not so heavy that you fail or loose form on the last rep.
