I've been overtraining, how do I recover

I've discovered that the reason my muscles haven't been deveopling like they use to. I use to have a crazy workout plan until I talked to a few people, where I'd alternate muscle groups every other day. I never took any day for rest. My muscles aren't to sore, but I'm noticed that I'm not getting any results after I work out. How many days should I reset before I continue?

Exactly! Take at least a week off. Design a plan for yourself or get help from a trainer. You should be giving your muscles a minimum of 4-6 days between workouts. If you don't give your muscles the time they need to recover, your kicking them while they are down.

If you are burned out the simplest solution is to rest. I would also suggest taking a closer look at your program. You may need to make some pretty serious adjustments.

I think I may be in the same boat. I was lifting 3 days a week and doing cardio 40-60 minutes 6-7 days per week. My new trainer said this is way overkill and preventing me from building strength. The thing is, I have quite a bit of bodyfat to lose. I thought my diet was pretty good... maybe not. I don't know what the problem is. But I am going to try to cut my cardio back to 3 days per week and not on lifting days (his suggestion) with one complete day of rest (that one's the killer).

I may try to add 20 minutes of HIIT on a lift day. I am getting frustrated because I feel like I am not getting the results that I want.

Rest is THE MOST important thing you body needs. Period. Active rest is an option. Swimming is my favorite thing for active recovery. And I mean casual swimming not for laps or time I just get into the pool, relax and swim lazily. The semi weightlessness is good for the muscles, and if the water is warm it can help a bit with relaxing the muscles.
