It's ridiculous, really

Hullo. First post after having lurked and read a little for the last few hours and I just wanted to admit straight off the bat that I contemplated uploading one of my "slimmer" pictures (one of those face only, good angle, stroke of luck photos) as my avatar... did anyone else think to do that? As if others thinking you're smaller than you are makes it true? On a forum about weight loss, it's batpoop cognitive dissonance craziness; the self-esteem equivalent of sticking my fingers in my ears and sqealing really, really loud.

Also contemplated wearing "happy funny cheerful chubber" mask but I figure I'll give being real a chance and see what happens. Worst comes to worst, I'll bribe y'all with cake... Reckon here of all places there would be a couple of takers ;)

So, aye. Hello.

Hmmm...

I'm far from a cheerleader. However, to me, this is about personal responsibility and accounting of beliefs and perceptions. To be successful, you need to be the owner of your actions and choices. It's easy to pawn things off on others or to your environment. But that's childish.

If losing weight and improving your health is something you *really* desire, make room for it in your life. Educate yourself about reasonable tactics. And set forth. Be consistent. And if you're not, ask yourself why.

Managing your expectations is also critically important.
